The Aghada under 12s were pushed all the way in this Group 3 encounter in a game where the lack of accurate shooting for points was greatly influenced by quite a strong breeze. The home team played with the wind in the first half and scored four points including a point from a well saved penalty, prior to which the keeper Charlie Mescal had made a further point blank save. The Aghada lads had plenty of possession but registered far more wides from point scoring chances or ended up carrying the ball into a crowded space and loosing possession of it . Their only score of the half was from a penalty which David OโRiordan dispatched to the back of the net. Adam OโLeary and Ronan Larkin were flying it at wing back while David, along with Isaac Logue, were winning possession from kick outs and carrying a lot of ball in the centre of the field . However too many shots for points tailed off wide in the breeze. So 0-4 to 1-0 at half time. The second half started with OโNeillโs registering a goal to extend their lead to four points . Things got worse when on several occasions the ref brought the ball forward for dissent . But the Aghada lads responded excellently with 2-8 in the second half. Credit to Sam McCarthy, Justin OโLeary, Tomas Day and Ben Connolly for some great kick passing and link up play. And also worthy of a mention is Hunter McRae for some brilliant tackles and dispossessing of his opposite number on several occasions. A hard earned victory but a real lesson in staying in the game when things arenโt initially going your way .
Foireann - Charlie Mescal, Jack OโBrien, Cathal Walsh, Adam OโLeary, Isaac Logue (0-2) , John Mescal , Hunter McRae, David OโRiordan (2-3), Justin OโLeary (0-1), Ben Connolly (1-0) , Sam McCarthy (0-2), Tomas Day , Jacob Cruise
Subs Ruairi McAteer, Ronan Larkin, James Day , Alex Connolly - ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ผ12 ๐๐๐๐๐๐

Unfortunately, the luck of the draw did not shine upon us, and we did not come out of the hat in the three-way play-off so that meant a return trip to Fermoy today, just 11 days after our previous meeting, when the lads had come out on top by a goal.
We were hoping that luck would be with us today, but it wasn't to be.
The first half was a tight and hard-fought affair, with the game dominated by frees. The teams went in level at half-time on 9 points apiece. All nine of Aghada's scores came from frees, with the ever-accurate Jack Mulcahy converting eight of them. Fermoy also relied on placed balls, with six of their nine first-half points coming from frees.
The second half saw both teams searching for that all-important goal, and it was Fermoy who found the breakthrough in the eighth minute.
The game then fluctuated between a four- and six-point margin, with Aghada chasing the game. But just as the lads brought the deficit back to four points again, with a point from Sam McAllister & another free from Jack Mulcahy, Fermoy struck for their second goal on the 20th min leaving Aghada chasing the game once more.
But to their credit, the lads never gave up. Two late goals in the final few minutes from Matthew Condon and Tom Walsh, wasn't enough time to close the gap.
And sadly, Aghada minors bow out of the Div1 Hurling Championship.
It is a disappointing end for these lads, but they can be hugely proud of the effort and determination they showed throughout the campaign.
Today was also an emotional occasion for another reason, as this was the final hurling game in an Aghada juvenile jersey for 11 of our players.
Jack Dorney, Sam McAllister, Josh McCarthy, Eoghan Walsh, Will O'Mahony, Cian Moore, Cormac Crowley, Jack Mulcahy, Adam Lewis, Sam Douglas and Tom Walsh have given so much to Aghada Juvenile Club over the years, with many of them starting their hurling journey with us at U6.
They have grown up together through the age groups, sharing countless training sessions, matches, victories, defeats, celebrations and memories.
We want to wish all 11 lads the very, very best of luck as they move on to the next chapter with the adult club. We hope they continue to enjoy their hurling and that there are many more great days ahead in an Aghada jersey.
Thank you, lads, for all the years of commitment and for the many wonderful memories you have given us.

Our U14s travelled to Caherlag on Friday evening for their Premier 2 Football Championship quarter-final to face a strong Ballinora side.
Ballinora hit the crossbar twice inside the opening couple of minutes, but our defence stood firm. With just two points apiece after 21 minutes, there was very little between the teams. Ballinora eventually found the net in the 22nd minute, but the lads responded brilliantly, adding points to go in level at half-time: Ballinora 1-02, Aghada 0-5.
The second half began much like the first, with Ballinora creating an early goal chance, only to be denied by a fine save from James OโBrien.
Aghada responded brilliantly, with Shay Casey firing in a lightning-fast goal, followed just two minutes later by a cracker from Rory Casey.
Ballinora kept the scoreboard ticking over and reduced the gap to four, but Aghada finished the game strongly, continuing to add points from Bobby, Ronan & Corey and seeing out a fantastic victory.
Full-time: Aghada 2-10, Bandonora 1-7
A great footballing performance from the lads. Well done.
They now progress to semi-final, where they will face Midleton on September 12th.
