Super Sunday for both our Senior teams in Togher Road today. Our Senior men started the morning with an impressive 6-1 win vs Prosporous Utd with our Senior Women overcoming Sallins Celtic with a great 2-1 win. Great stuff from both teams.

MAFC are delighted to announce the partnership with Finlays Bar Monasterevin, who will be our Senior Mens Team main sponcer for rest of this 2026 season and next season 2027. Our Senior Mens team play in the Kildare & District Football League.

Wasn't to be today for our u18 girls in the KDUL u18 cup final. The first half finished level at 2-2 with cracking goals from Kate Reidy & Chloe O'Connell. In what was a cracking match with Kilcock Celtic, the game was only decided in the last few minutes with MAFC pushing for an equaliser, Kilcock having gone 3-2 up, getting caught on the break to make the final score 4-2. Great performance from our girls and Congats to Kilcock Celtic on the win today.

MAFC Dig Deep in KDFL Masters Division

Straffan 2–3 Monasterevin AFC 35s

Monasterevin AFC travelled to Straffan knowing that nothing less than a huge performance would be required if they were to put a serious spanner in the hosts’ title ambitions — and the lads delivered.

Straffan got off to the perfect start, finding the net from close range after just 3 minutes. MAFC responded brilliantly, creating chance after chance as the pressure began to build.

That pressure eventually told. After a series of corners, James “Twiggy” McMahon stepped up and produced a moment of magic, curling the ball directly from the corner into the goalkeeper’s near top corner to bring MAFC level.

HALF-TIME: STRAFFAN 1–1 MAFC

The second half followed the same pattern, with Monasterevin relentless from the restart. Drico and Ash McCrave combined brilliantly to put Twiggy through, and the in-form midfielder made no mistake, finishing to put MAFC 2–1 ahead.

Then came a spectacular moment. Goalkeeper Niall McAteer launched a long clearance upfield which found the ever-dangerous Drico. With the goalkeeper off his line, Drico showed incredible composure to calmly chip him and put MAFC 3–1 up.

Straffan refused to surrender and pulled one back in the 51st minute, setting up a grandstand finish.

Both sides had chances as the game entered a tense final period, but MAFC refused to buckle. Staffy and Dave Kirwan led the defensive resistance, showing tremendous resilience to keep Straffan at bay.

FULL-TIME: STRAFFAN 2–3 MONASTEREVIN AFC 35s

A massive three points for MAFC and a superb all-round team performance.

The midfield pairing of Tommy Moloney and Spuddy were immaculate, covering every blade of grass and controlling the middle of the park. Ash McCrave and Freddie worked tirelessly on the wings, while the back five stood firm as a unit.

Up front, the front two worked their socks off from start to finish.

⭐ REFEREE’S MAN OF THE MATCH: JAMES “TWIGGY” MCMAHON

Twiggy’s two goals were decisive, but the truth is the award could have gone to any one of the eleven.

Outstanding performances from Tommy, Staffy, Sid and Spuddy, who gave absolutely everything from the first whistle to the last.

A huge result. A huge performance. And three points that MAFC thoroughly deserved.

All at Monasterevin AFC were deeply saddened when we learned of the death of Marie Heavey. The Heavy & Kaye families have been heavily invoved with our club over the years, administrating, coaching & playing with our underage & senior teams. All at MAFC would like to offer our deepest condolences to the Heavey and Kaye families at this very sad and difficult time.

Funeral arrangements attached below. Those going to the funeral on Saturday morning, parking is available at our Togher Road facility, gates will be open from 10am. Our parking area is a short walk to the church and all are welcome to use.

MAFC Over 35s 4–2 Sallins Over 35s
Monasterevin AFC continued their impressive form with a deserved 4-2 victory over Sallins, securing another three points in an entertaining Division One encounter at Togher Road.
For the second game in succession, MAFC struck inside the opening minute. Sean "Drico" O'Driscoll released Pierse Mitchell down the right, and his dangerous cross eventually found James "Twiggy" McMahon, who kept his composure to convert at the third attempt and give the hosts the perfect start.
Monasterevin continued to press and created several more opportunities, but a mixture of determined Sallins defending and a touch of misfortune prevented them from extending their lead.
Sallins responded in the 7th minute when Lee Gibbs finished well from Wes McLoughlin's cross to bring the visitors level.
The equaliser only spurred MAFC into action. Their pressure paid off when another dangerous delivery from Pierse Mitchell deceived everyone, including the Sallins goalkeeper, before flying into the top corner to restore Monasterevin's advantage.
MAFC then opened up a two-goal cushion after a defensive mix-up was punished by Sean "Drico" O'Driscoll. A clever through ball from Twiggy McMahon sent the striker clear, and he calmly finished for his 20th league goal of the season.
Sallins refused to lie down and reduced the deficit in the 26th minute when captain Shane Doyle found the net to make it 3-2.
The visitors almost drew level before the break, but Gary Daly produced a superb last-ditch tackle inside the six-yard box to deny what looked a certain goal, preserving MAFC's slender advantage going into half-time.

The second half was a competitive affair with chances at both ends. O'Driscoll came close on several occasions but was denied by a combination of excellent goalkeeping and some unfortunate breaks of the ball.
The decisive moment arrived when Pierse Mitchell threaded a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Twiggy McMahon. The striker rounded the goalkeeper with confidence before calmly slotting home his second goal of the afternoon to seal a deserved 4-2 victory for the home side.

MAFC Over 35s 6-1 Longwood Over 35s

Monasterevin AFC Over 35s produced another outstanding attacking display as they defeated Longwood 6-1 at Togher Road, with Sean "Drico" O'Driscoll continuing his sensational form by scoring twice and claiming the Man of the Match award for the second consecutive week.

The home side couldn't have asked for a better start and were ahead after just two minutes. Sean "Drico" O'Driscoll picked out Glenn Binions on the edge of the area, and Binions made the finish look effortless, calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner.

MAFC dominated the opening stages and created several more opportunities, with O'Driscoll and Pierce Mitchell both going close as the hosts looked to extend their advantage.

The second goal eventually arrived in the 17th minute. James "Twiggy" McMahon delivered an inviting cross into the box, where O'Driscoll slid in to finish from close range and double Monasterevin's lead.

Longwood responded well and reduced the deficit on 26 minutes when Ian Keenan unleashed a superb 25-yard strike into the top corner, giving goalkeeper Niall McAteer no chance. The visitors finished the half strongly, but MAFC took a deserved 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half began much like the first, with Monasterevin on the front foot. Their pressure paid off when Tommy Moloney's corner found substitute Dave Cummins at the near post. Cummins showed great composure with his first touch, turned sharply and fired home first time to make it 3-1.

Just two minutes later it was 4-1. David "Spuddy" Murphy's perfectly weighted through ball released the in-form O'Driscoll, who rounded the goalkeeper before calmly finishing for his second of the afternoon and his 19th goal of the season.

Twiggy deservedly got on the scoresheet in the 60th minute when his dangerous cross somehow evaded everyone and flew into the far top corner to make it 5-1.

There was still time for one more as McMahon turned provider again in the final minute, setting up Pierce Mitchell, who finished confidently to complete an emphatic 6-1 victory for the home side.

Best for MAFC: Darren Siney, David "Spuddy" Murphy and James "Twiggy" McMahon all impressed, while Sean "Drico" O'Driscoll claimed the Man of the Match award for the second successive week after another outstanding performance.
