Busy week for Bike Week 2024 on the Royal Canal Greenway , Thank you to all the Schools and Adults that got out and enjoyed the week , we had School groups from longford Longford Sports Partnership, Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar,Presentation School Mullingar, Meath and Offaly , and also Electric Cargo bike Show in Salthill Galway , justs a few pictures !

We had this TY group in with us for bike week , Well done to all Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar cycling to Athlone and back 84km 👏👏👏

The secret is out , Catherine and the kids were really in Mullingar last summer on a big shopping spree and visited loads of tourist attractions when the photo was taken .

They visited the following places over a few days which they really enjoyed.

They were in Belvedere House Gardens & Park too. The princess of Wales said , " It's truly the jewel in the Crown of Westmeath's tourism "

They stopped off at the Greville Arms Hotel to see Niall Horan brit awards .

For a bit of educational history they saw the world famous Boris Anrep mosaics in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar

The Couldn't believe Marie Antoinette ring was in the cathedral museum .

They enjoyed a lovely walk along the Royal Canal of course . They Visited Tullynally Castle & Gardens and the tea rooms . They had an amazing time there.

They went a few minutes down the road and went to see the seven wonders of Fore Pilgrim's Trail and Tale . The award winning trail loop was brilliant.

They went to the famous Mullaghmeen Forest not far from fore . Mullaghmeen is an isolated area of forest rising above the farm land of north Westmeath.

Mullaghmeen Forest is the largest planted beech forest in Ireland. The summit of Mullaghmeen provides magnificent views north across Lough Sheelin and into the neighbouring county of Cavan.

They hired bikes from Mullingar Bike Hire and cycled off to Coolnahay and had a nice cup of tae at the Lock 26 Coffee Box .

It was time to go bowling and Rock 'n' Bowl was the great place for the kids to let off steam.

It was back to nature and Mollie Moo's Pet Farm
was a great place for them to see loads of farm animals . They enjoyed the Crazy Golf, Go-Karts, Sandpit, Mooville – Interactive Village.

Just down the road there was the The Lis Cafe Tudenham which had lovely food for the Royals .
A walk around Lough Ennell was beautiful.

You can't leave Mullingar without getting your picture with the Joe Dolan Statue Mullingar Ireland
and it was the answer to everything.

They were sad to leave Mullingar but brought back with them loads of great memories of Mullingar.

They got loads of souvenirs from Traynors at Austin Friars Street and Rochforts Superstore - Mullingar Music .

We had a great day today at the Holiday World Show at the Visit Westmeath stand with lots of people interested in all the wonders that Westmeath has to offer including our beautiful greenways and especially our overnight camping trailer tent experience !

The awards, which took place in Rome, Italy, saw the Royal Canal Greenway compete against routes such as Greenway of the Trabocchi Coast, Italy and The European Bridge and a cross-border Polish-German greenway, to be named as the leading greenway in Europe.
The European Greenway Awards assess Europe’s leading greenways, those that stand out for their excellence and demonstration of best practice.
The Royal Canal Greenway was commended by the judges as “a very ambitious project to enhance a 130 km long historical canal with high heritage value as a greenway” and for showing a “high quality and great support from stakeholders.” The Royal Canal Greenway was also commended for having an outstanding promotion and product development, and for the economic impact it has delivered.
This is one of many awards for the Royal Canal Greenway since it's launch in 2021, winning 'European Cycle Route of the Year 2022' at the leading Dutch Walking and Cycling Fair and nationally 'Best Tourism Initiative' in 2022.
The Royal Canal is Ireland's longest greenway at 130km. The route passes 90 bridges, 33 locks, 17 harbours and four aqueducts, not to mention dozens of shops, B&Bs, restaurants and pubs. You can tailor your experience to your liking!
Select from shorter designated routes, ranging from 6km to 15km, or go all-in on the full 130km trail. Starting in Maynooth, it follows the 200 year old canal through Enfield and Mullingar to Cloondara in Longford, with cafés, picnic spots and attractions along the way.
