History was made for Mullingar Jets swimming club last Friday when our masters swimmers completed two successful English Channel Swim crossings to become the very first Westmeath teams’ to do so.

Dubbed as one of the most challenging swims in the world, the English Channel had our swimmers swim from Dover, England to Calais in France. Undertaking the swim in skins, our teams had to face various ever changing conditions swimming across multiple current-tidal changes, jellyfish, waves and constant chop along with swimming through the night in the open sea.

News broke on Saturday morning 01:16 that Team Malachy touched France closely followed by an update at 03:05 that Team Turgesius had reached France and successfully completed their channel swims.

A Massive Congratulations to all the swimmers, Issy Mooney, Brian Ivory, Anthony Hughes, Larry Mulligan, Conor Hughes, Stephen Bell, Enda Munnelly, Anne Claffey, Trev Hyland & Robbie Keane on such a historic day.
