Gavin Coyne Fitness Head Coach of Unbeatable 28 - helping build stronger mindsets and skillsets to tackle the ups and downs of modern life.

Young athletes go from session to session and season to season with no real downtime and no chance to stop and think. Most players who fall short don't need new skills; they need to pay attention and reflect. I explain how my daughter and her teammates use quick after-training check-ins, including one simple question: "What came out of the blue, and how did I handle it?"

Here's something I've come to believe after years pitchside: the challenges our kids face in sport aren't new. Nerves, mistakes, fear of letting people down — players have always felt those.

What's new is the volume around them. Social media. Comparison. The feeling of always being watched. Our players are staring out at far more noise than we ever had to.

That's why the old "just don't worry about it" doesn't cut it anymore. Modern players need a modern skill — the ability to bring their focus back to what they can actually control.

We happily spend hours teaching them how to strike a ball. Maybe it's time we spent a few minutes teaching them how to steady their own mind.

People often ask me where Unbeatable came from. The honest answer? The front seat of a car.

My daughters would get nervous before matches, and I'd do what most parents do — tell them not to worry. But telling a child not to feel something rarely works. So I started asking questions instead of giving answers. What are your two or three jobs today? What will you do if it goes wrong?

And here's what amazed me: they nearly always knew. The nerves weren't hiding a lack of ability. They were blocking access to what the girls already understood.

That's the whole idea behind Unbeatable. Not filling players with information they don't have — but helping them reach what's already inside when the pressure's on.

We’ve been here before but it still doesn’t get any easier ….. how to handle the losses

I know it’s not fatal, the day, the weekend and life goes on
I also know right now to her it feels like the end of the world … a semi final set back stings …. There’s no make up fixture to get it right

Brushing it off with a “ sure it’s grand you tried your best “ or “ sure it’s only a game “ …. Isn’t the right thing to say

Trying to point out what they did well in patches is not what they want to hear

Truthfully it’s not about what they hear from us to try pick them up , it’s more so about them being heard and being able to be

We have one rule after a loss, you’ve the car ride home to feel how you feel and get it all out and then we’ll carry on

…… maybe the best thing is to listen first and then come back around with the positives

⚡️ The Power Of Proof ⚡️

Setting some simple markers early is great- it’s gives an immediate payoff for our efforts and it builds resilience when we try more hard things

“Well last time I faced a hard thing I figured it out, so I’ve no reason to believe I won’t figure this out too”

What would you be able to do if that one slight change in mindset was made ?

Done is better than “ how it should be” 100% of the time

05/10/2026

These next few weeks can be mental from a balance and schedule point of view …. And fitting in training can be trickier ….. but what if we tried do less so we can keep progressing , finish the year out strong and hit 2027 from the outset ?

Planes. Trains. Automobiles.
⏰48 hours.
🇮🇪➡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿1,200 km.
Kilcullen → Newbridge → Dublin → London and back again

All for a worth while cause ….. The Q3 alliance immersion day

At our Q3 meetup in London yesterday, my coach, two-time UK Master Coach of the Year Paul Mort , was talking about the AI unfair advantage.

And it got me thinking about another unfair advantage I’ve gotten …. The Paul
Mort X Neutonic combo

Because in our house, there genuinely aren’t enough hours in the day.

Four kids.
Two careers.
Two separate football schedules
The usual family madness.

Oh, and I’ve decided to throw rebuilding a coaching programme from scratch into the mix as well.

So I don’t really have the luxury of spending hours being busy doing nothing…. I need to be effective in the short term ( que Neutonic ) so I can be present and free in the long term

I need to be productive, to lock in, get the important stuff done so when it’s family time they get the best version of their dad

Which is an ambitious and important set of goals …. So that’s why I stack

It’s not just about getting more work done.

It’s about buying some of that time back.

And then actually using it to do what I love, with who I love.

That’s a pretty winning combo …. And if you don’t believe me swipe right to see a British icon agree !
