Our Youths welcomed Campile United to Cushinstown on Saturday for a fiercely contested game between two competitive sides. The first half saw plenty of effort from both teams, but neither managed to find the back of the net, leaving the scoreline level at 0–0 at the break.
Cushinstown came out fighting in the second half and broke the deadlock just 10 minutes into the second half with C. McCarthy finding the net following a great assist from T. O’Connor. However, Campile United responded quickly, equalising just minutes later to bring the game back level.
The visitors then gained the upper hand, scoring twice in quick succession to put Cushinstown under pressure. With the game seemingly slipping away, the Cushinstown lads showed great determination and continued to battle until the very end. Their efforts were rewarded with eight minutes remaining when T. O’Connor found the net, assisted by S. Johnston, to give the home side hope of a late comeback.
Despite a strong finish and a fantastic team effort, the lads unfortunately ran out of time, with Campile United taking the victory by a narrow margin.
While the result didn’t go their way, the boys showed great determination, confidence and fighting spirit throughout the game. They kept pushing until the final whistle, and there is plenty to be proud of in their performance.
Full-time: Cushinstown 2–3 Campile United
