We express our deepest condolences to the Holian Family at this time, with the passing of Billy Holian. May he rest in peace, agus Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

BILLY HOLIAN Douglas Drive, The Walk and Racecourse Road, Roscommon Town. Unexpectedly but peacefully on 16th October 2026.

Predeceased by his father Tom and sister Claire.

Billy will be sadly missed by his loving mother Nuala, sisters Mary, Anna, Kathleen, Diana and Caroline, brothers Tom and David, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and his very good friends and neighbours.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Reposing at his family home, Racecourse Road, Roscommon F42 F407 on Monday (19th October) from 3 o’c until 6.30 o’c followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon F42 XT96. Funeral Mass on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’c. Burial afterwards in St Coman’s Cemetery.

HOUSE STRICTLY PRIVATE OUTSIDE OF REPOSING TIMES PLEASE.

It is away day duty for both United squads this weekend.

At 2pm on Saturday it's Round 3 of the Mens Division 2 league, and both sides enter the game undefeated. Castlerea were 1-4 away winners at Carrick Town in matchday 1, following that up with a strong 3-1 home performance against St Cuans Ahascragh. Good luck to all involved. United drew the opener 1-1 v St Cuans Ahascragh, and won away on the road in Dysart last Sunday, so it promises to be another competitive and close game.
A few hours later at 7pm the Womens team will take on Boyle Celtic on the futuristic 4G in Boyle. United ladies are looking to build on the win against Shiven Rovers, and the hosts are looking to bounce back from last weekends away defeat against Castlerea Celtic.

MD2 FT- Cam Dysart FC 1-3 Roscommon United

The Mens side secured their first win of the season in a four-goal affair at the Dysart Community Centre pitch on Sunday morning. Matches between these two sides are usually characterised by attacking, high tempo football, and this was no different. The sides could not be separated on the scoresheet until the 36th minute, when Jay Donlon produced another bit of magic from a dead ball past James Rourke in the Dysart goal.

And barely two minutes Fergal O’Rourke scored his first goal for the club, after being found expertly by the Glenview Garrincha Daniel O’Doherty.

Going into the break 2-0 up proved to be a vital cushion, as Dysart flew out of the blocks in the second half, Ben Moran pulling one back on 48’. The second half turned into a tussle and a half- Roscommon looking to restore the cushion, and Dysart doing all they could to get back on terms. Both coaches looked to the benches for a solution to the impasse. Ryan Clarke, Nathan Hannon, Szymon Sikorski and Liam Hannon were introduced to galvanise the team, and it was the latter that had the final say on the result, netting on 84’ with a fine solo effort.

Great credit goes to the players 1 through 15 for contributing to a hard fought win, and to John and assistants for preparing the team.

The lads do battle with Castlerea Celtic B on Saturday, where both teams’ undefeated starts to the season will be put on the line. C’mon United.

MD4 FT Roscommon United 4 0 Shiven Rovers

The Ladies team secured their first points of the league campaign with their best performance of the year, prevailing 4-0 over Shiven Rovers in Lecarrow.

Galeybeg was bathed in sunshine at kickoff, with both sides trading chances in the early exchanges. Roscommon settled quicker and began to gain the initiative. The breakthrough came on 28’- Cer McSherry set Hannah Kerr for the opener- always a good day when you score in your first appearance of the season!

Tia Cronin also marked her return to the side after injury, finding the net seven minutes after half time with an assist by midfielder Susan Spillane. Gertie Dowd found the third showing quick feet on the knockdown from a corner, and Tia Cronin rounded out the scoring on 77’, laid in by Cer McSherry.

A nice boost of confidence for the squad after a tough opening set of fixtures. The application and camaraderie from training is starting to show on matchdays- isn't that why we play in the first place? We are here for it. Well done all.
