The 150th Anniversary of the 1886 Catalpa Fenian Rescue...Enormous event of its time.... what is the Slane connection?

The Slane connection is, John Boyle O'Reilly (Dowth) who had been sentenced to death for his Irish Nationalist activities with this sentence being commuted to transportation to Freemantle prison in Australia from which he escaped to the USA and subsequently teamed up with John Devoy to organise the daring rescue of 6 of his fellow convicts whom he had left behind.

To mark the event, a jersey has been launched with the permission of the Slane GFC. The jersey carries 3 crests to mark the convict journey...
