βDoes your heel hurt when you take your first steps in the morning?
Do you feel a sharp pain under your heel when getting out of bed, only to notice that it gradually improves as you start walking?
This is a common problem and may be related to irritation of the plantar fascia β a strong band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot.
π You may notice:
β’ sharp or stabbing pain under the heel
β’ discomfort during your first steps in the morning
β’ pain after sitting or resting for a long time
β’ tenderness around the bottom of your heel
β’ pain that returns after prolonged standing or walking
Heel pain can be influenced by several factors, including increased physical activity, prolonged standing, footwear, reduced ankle mobility or changes in how your foot handles pressure.
π‘ Why shouldn't you ignore recurring heel pain?
Although the discomfort may ease once you start moving, it doesn't always mean the underlying problem has resolved.
A physiotherapy assessment can help identify factors contributing to your heel pain and guide you towards appropriate exercises, improved mobility and better load management.
β οΈ Not all heel pain is caused by plantar fasciitis. If your symptoms persist, worsen or begin affecting your daily activities, it's worth having them assessed.
