PRYCE STORMS TO BRC TITLE

Osian Pryce is the 2026 British Rally Champion after winning the Cambrian Rally (Saturday 24 October) in his Castrol MEM Rally Team Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.

It marks the third consecutive British Rally Championship drivers' title for the Castrol MEM Rally Team.

Strong winds, torrential rain and deep standing water courtesy of Storm Boelo made conditions in the North Wales forests even more challenging. Yet Osian held his nerve to secure his second BRC title, having previously been champion in 2022, while co-driver James Morgan wins the BRC for the first time.

Knowing that only victory would guarantee him the title, Osian took the lead after setting the fastest time on SS4 (Clocaenog). Another fastest time on SS5 (Hiraethog) saw him arrive at the midday service halt with a 14.9-second advantage.

Conditions worsened over the final four stages, but the 33-year old Machynlleth-born driver used all his experience to set the second-fastest time on each in his Michelin-shod Toyota. He went on to secure victory over Max McRae by 1.2 seconds and, with it, the British Rally Championship title.

Having finished on the podium on every previous round of the 2026 BRC, Meirion Evans arrived at the Cambrian Rally with a genuine chance of lifting the title.

He clipped a rock on the opening stage (Crafnant), which upset his rhythm and cost him time. He and co-driver Dale Furniss fought back, setting the fastest time on SS3 (Brenig) to move up to second and start SS5 just 5.4 seconds behind Osian.

Unfortunately, the 31-year old Lampeter driver's title challenge came to an end on the stage before midday service, when his Pirelli-shod Toyota slid backwards off the road on a particularly wet and muddy section. Despite the disappointment, Meirion ended the season having finished on the podium on every previous round and having mounted a serious challenge for his first BRC title.

Osian Pryce said: “I’m over the moon to win the British Rally Championship title for a second time, especially in such seriously challenging conditions as we had on the Cambrian Rally.

“We didn’t have the best of starts, with what we think was a wiring issue with the car before the first stage. That meant we couldn’t see what gear we were in, and we couldn’t engage neutral or, more importantly, reverse. If we’d spun or had an overshoot, we’d have been in big trouble!

“We therefore had to be very careful through the morning’s loop of stages and I was very surprised to be leading at midday service. I know Max [McRae] made a few mistakes in the morning, but all in all it wasn’t the best of starts for us either.

“We went into the afternoon with a fifteen-second lead, which we tried to manage. It was a little closer than I’d have liked, especially as the weather was deteriorating and visibility on the final stage was particularly compromised, but it all came good in the end. It’s been a fantastic year-long battle with Meirion and Max and it’s been a tough title to win – as the British Rally Championship should be.

“A huge ‘thank you’ to the Castrol MEM Rally Team. It’s been a big effort, especially in a short, sharp season spread over seven months, and I cannot thank everyone in the team enough. James has also been a tremendous help – not just with his co-driving skills, but also with his knowledge of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, which has helped me enormously.”

Meirion Evans said: “I felt that we finally had the speed on gravel to go and do the job, and both the rally win, and the British title, really felt within reach, which is the most disappointing thing about what happened.

“All three of the title contenders were pushing hard as expected and the gap behind us was big. It was nice to be in the mix from the start of the rally and set a fastest time on stage three. It was a frustrating end to our event, however. We ran a bit wide on the corner before and when I braked the car locked up and we couldn’t scrub off enough speed for the next tight and slippery left-hander. We slid backwards into a ditch and couldn’t get out. It was just one of those places where there wasn't any grip.

“The speed was there on the Cambrian. We were fighting Osian and Max [McRae] and we were up to second, just five seconds behind – and the way the weather was, five seconds was next to nothing. It’s a shame what happened. I’m obviously disappointed. Not just for myself, but for the team and all the work they’ve put in.

“Overall, it’s been a very positive year. Personally, I’ve made some good steps forward with myself and the car and I feel that I’m just as competitive now on gravel as I am on asphalt.

“Many congratulations to Osian and James on winning the title. Up until halfway through the final round, both Castrol MEM Rally Team crews had a chance of lifting the title, so huge credit to everyone who has been involved.”

MEEKE BACK FOR KILLARNEY REDEMPTION!

Kris Meeke is heading back to the Killarney Historic Rally on November 29, determined to settle unfinished business after last year's heartbreaking retirement.

The five-time WRC event winner will reunite with Noel O'Sullivan in the iconic Ahern's BMW M3 E30, prepared by MATS Performance.

The pair dominated last year's event, leading from the opening stage until a mechanical problem on the penultimate test cruelly ended their hopes of victory.

They return with winning momentum, having recently claimed victory together at Rali Ceredigion in Wales.

This year's event carries extra significance, marking the rally's 30th anniversary, with Meeke's former WRC co-driver Paul Nagle serving as Clerk of the Course, following in the footsteps of his late father Maurice, who founded the event.

The legendary BMW E30 M3 also celebrates its 40th anniversary, with almost 20 examples expected to tackle the famous Kerry tarmac.

Can Meeke and O'Sullivan finish what they started last year?

SESKS SECURES FIFTH ERC VICTORY

Martins Sesks Rally snatched a fifth FIA European Rally Championship win from the jaws of defeat after a dramatic finale to Rally 6 Cities North of Portugal, the 2026 ERC season showdown, on Sunday.

Sesks had completed leg one with a lead of 10.5sec over Roope Korhonen, his team-mate at Team MRF Tyres. But when a damper issue struck the Latvian’s Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 and left him trailing his Finnish rival by 8.2sec following the morning loop of stages, his chances of victory were seemingly on the slide.

Korhonen then edged further ahead after he beat Sesks by 2.4sec on SS14 for a lead of 10.6sec with three stages remaining. However, there was late heartache for Korhonen when his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 dropped onto two-wheel-drive mode and Sesks raced clear to win alongside co-driver Renārs Francis.

“We worked a lot towards this,” said Sesks. “Of course, it wasn’t easy for us and Roope today, we both had some technical issues. At the end we were a bit more lucky but the pace we were driving today and yesterday, they made us push really hard. Yesterday you were giving it all out at the beginning, today was more about seeing what we can do and what we cannot. In the end we played the safe game, and it paid off.”

Korhonen said: “Our rear diff broke and the car was only two-wheel drive, so quite a shame. Of course it’s frustrating because we did a good job and we led the rally but it’s part of the game and that’s it. Everything was going really well, the feeling in the car was super-nice and the car set-up felt good, tyres and everything. I didn’t need to push so much because it feels good.”

Michelin-equipped Pablo Sarrazin, who battled a steering issue throughout the morning loop aboard his Lancia Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale, snatched second from the slowing Korhonen on the Power Stage, which included the legendary Pedra Sentada or Fafe jump.

Jan Solans settled for fourth as Simone Tempestni finished fifth ahead of Arthur Pelamourges. Points scored by Sarrazin and Pelamourgues helped Team France win the second National Match Rally ahead of Team Portugal.

Armindo Araújo was the top Portuguese finisher in seventh followed by 2025 ERC champion Miko Marczyk, who just did enough to clinch the runner-up spot in the final standings ahead of Andrea Mabellini, who retired on leg one with a mechanical issue.

Pirelli-shod Pedro Almeida overcame gearbox issues to finish ninth ahead of Hankook-supplied Léo Rossel, who was delayed changing a wheel on leg one. Jakub Matulka started the Power Stage in 10th but lost out to Rossel on the deciding 11.20 kilometres of the rally.

Adam Grahn battled back from a spin, intercom issues and tyre damage to secure a strong 12th ahead of ERC1 rookie Nicolas Otto, Pierre Ragues and Gábor Német.

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT NG development driver Rio Ogata won FIA ERC3 on his debut, Karl Peder Nordstrand landed a maiden victory in the Hankook-supplied FIA Junior ERC category, while Timo Schulz secured an FIA ERC4/FIA ERC Junior title double. The ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team driver’s prize for his Junior ERC success is a season competing in the FIA Junior WRC in 2027.

Several leading contenders hit trouble during the event. They included Kris Meeke, who crashed out on SS4, Patrick Enok, who stopped with suspension damage on the same stage, and Sarah Rumeau, who was in a strong ninth place on her ERC debut until she rolled into retirement on SS7, where Tymek Abramowski ended up on his roof and Andrea Mabellini also stopped.

Ville Vatanen was nearing the finish of SS9 when a heavy landing triggered an alarm onboard his Ford Fiesta Rally2 and forced the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team driver to pull over. On his prize drive for winning the ERC Fiesta Rally3 Trophy, the Pirelli-equipped Finn was in 11th place at the time after a highly encouraging display. He restarted on leg two and completed the top 20.

Nikolay Gryazin also restarted on Sunday after gearbox failure forced him to stop on SS9. He recovered to 17th place

SESKS EDGES KORHONEN IN ERC BATTLE

Martins Sesks Rally is one day away from claiming his fifth FIA European Rally Championship victory after completing leg one of Rally 6 Cities North of Portugal with a 10.5sec lead.

Mārtiņš Sesks is one day away from claiming his fifth FIA European Rally Championship victory after completing leg one of Rally 6 Cities North of Portugal with a 10.5sec lead.

But with the 2026 ERC season decider proving a stern test on rough gravel roads, victory is far from guaranteed for the Team MRF Tyres driver.

Fourth quickest through the Tarmac super special on the Monte Penha hillclimb in Guimarães on Friday evening, Sesks moved into a 2.0sec lead by winning Saturday’s first gravel stage.

Although he wouldn’t go quickest again until SS5, his advantage remained intact throughout, despite the Latvian hinting at a mechanical issue with his Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. At the finish of Saturday’s final stage, he reported a problem with the pop-off valve.

“I was pushing in this one, my hands are a bit shaking, this was a good stage,” Sesks said after claiming his fourth stage win of the day on SS9. “A few places with the embedded rocks that threw the car up in the air, it’s quite a tricky thing. But it’s been a good day.”

Behind Sesks, Roope Korhonen is on course to make it a 1-2 for Team MRF Tyres, with Pablo Sarrazin heading for a career-best third place on his third ERC start. Part of Team France’s National Match Rally line-up, Sarrazin set the pace on SS3 in his Michelin-equipped Lancia Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale to underline his potential.

Korhonen, meanwhile, went quickest on SS4, SS6 and SS8 but dropped precious time when he ran wide through bushes on SS9, which he completed with a deflated front-left tyre on his Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.

Léo Rossel took fourth from fellow Hankook-supplied Lancia driver Nikolay Gryazin on SS7. But when Rossel stopped with a broken wheel rim on SS8, Gryazin reclaimed the position as Rossel dropped outside the top 10.

In another dramatic twist, Gryazin stopped 6.5 kilometres into the day’s final stage with a mechanical issue, promoting Jan Solans into fourth, SSS1 pacesetter Simone Tempestini into fifth and Arthur Pelamourgues into sixth.

Multiple Portuguese champion Armindo Araújo is seventh after overtaking Miko Marczyk on SS9, where the 2025 ERC champion was delayed by front-left tyre damage.

Portuguese championship contenders Pedro Almeida and Rúben Rodrigues are next, followed by Jakub Matulka, Nicolas Otto, Sebastián Franco and Adam Grahn, who was delayed by a spin on SS7 and an intercom issue during the morning loop. The delayed Rossel completed the top 15.

Several drivers hit trouble during a day of high attrition. They included Kris Meeke, who crashed out on SS4, and Patrick Enok, who rolled on the same stage. Sarah Rumeau was running a strong ninth on her ERC debut before rolling into retirement on SS7, where Tymek Abramowski also ended up on his roof and Andrea Mabellini stopped.

Ville Vatanen was nearing the finish of SS9 when a heavy landing triggered an alarm on board his Ford Fiesta Rally2 and forced him to pull over. Contesting his prize drive for winning the ERC Fiesta Rally3 Trophy, the Pirelli-equipped Finn was in 11th place at the time after a highly encouraging display.

Rally 6 Cities North of Portugal resumes tomorrow (Sunday) with the 8.73-kilometre Montim stage from 08:05 local time.
