How to get down on the floor for floor-based exercises.

The safest, most stable method is the Four-Point Kneeling Technique, using a sturdy chair as a support anchor.

This method ensures you always have three points of contact with a stable surface, eliminating the risk of falling.

The Approach:
Stand facing the front of the chair. Place both of your hands firmly on the centre of the seat.

The Lunge: Step your strongest leg back into a long, comfortable step. Keep your weight centred.

The First Knee: Slowly bend your back leg and lower that knee completely down onto your cushion or mat. Keep holding the chair tightly.

The Second Knee: Bring your other leg back so that both knees are now resting on the cushion.

You are now safely kneeling.

The Transition: Place one hand down on the floor, followed by the other hand.

You are now on all fours.

The Final Position:
Carefully lower your hips to one side and roll onto your hip, bottom, or back to begin your exercises.

Keep an eye out for future posts, where I will demonstrate how to get safely down to and up from the floor at home.

The heel-to-toe walking drill is a simple but effective exercise for improving balance, coordination, foot control, and walking mechanics.

🚶 How to do it:

Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.

Place the heel of one foot directly in front of the toes of the other foot.

Slowly transfer your weight onto the front foot.

Bring the other foot forward, again placing the heel directly in front of the toes.

Continue for 5–10 metres, taking slow, controlled steps.

Keep your eyes looking forward rather than down at your feet.
Use a wall, rail, or another stable support if your balance is challenged.

đź’ˇ Why do it?

^Improves dynamic balance
^Challenges proprioception and body awareness
^Develops foot and ankle control
^Improves coordination and gait stability
^Helps train controlled weight transfer
^Useful as part of balance and movement retraining

**Key cue:
“Heel → toe → shift your weight → control the next step.”

Walking is underrated! 🚶

Walking might not feel like a “workout,” but it’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your fitness and overall health.

It burns calories without beating up your body.

Walking is low-impact, making it easier on your joints and something you can do consistently.

It improves cardiovascular fitness: Regular brisk walking gets your heart and lungs working and can gradually improve your fitness.

It supports fat loss: You don’t need to smash yourself with intense workouts every day. Increasing your daily movement can make a meaningful difference to your overall energy expenditure.

It helps recovery: An easy walk can increase blood flow and keep you moving on days when you’re not ready for a hard training session.

It’s great for your mental health:
Getting outside, moving your body and taking a break from screens can help reduce stress and clear your head.

It’s sustainable: The best exercise isn't necessarily the hardest exercise — it’s the exercise you can actually keep doing.

It adds up: Ten minutes here, fifteen minutes there, a walk after dinner — those little pockets of movement can turn into a surprisingly active day.

The takeaway I give clients:

You don't have to earn your fitness through exhausting workouts. Strength train, challenge yourself, recover well — and walk more.
Fitness is built not just in the gym, but in everything you do between workouts.

Now that you can get down to the floor to exercise... how do you get back up? 🛋️👇

Two days ago, we looked at how to safely transition down to the floor for your exercises.
But for many people, the fear of not being able to get back up keeps them from ever trying floor workouts in the first place.

Let's fix that.

The secret to getting up with confidence is using the Chair Method.
It breaks the movement down into a safe, controlled sequence:

Step 1: The Anchor. Roll onto your hands and knees, facing a heavy, sturdy chair. Place both hands firmly on the seat.

Step 2: The Half-Kneel. Lift your chest up proud. Bring your strongest leg forward and place that foot completely flat on the floor.

Step 3: The Drive. Push straight down through your hands into the chair and drive through your front heel to lift your hips.

Step 4: The Pivot. Once standing, don't rush off! Slowly turn around and sit in the chair to let your blood pressure settle.

Floor mobility is a "use it or lose it" skill.

By practising this transition, you aren't just completing your workout—you are building vital fall-recovery independence.

Just because your trainer can do the splits doesn't mean you should.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is people being pushed beyond their comfortable range of movement.

Good flexibility isn't about copying someone else's range. It's about improving your movement safely and gradually.

Exercise should be adapted to the individual—not the other way around.

Have you ever felt pushed into a stretch that didn't feel right?
