CLASHMORE/KINSALEBEG GAA CLUB - OFFICIAL CLUB TRIP TO SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA MARCH 2027
“Ancient granite streets, mossy stone arches, and the majestic Cathedral take on a timeless, glistening magic under soft spring skies.
The city pulses with rich Celtic heritage, lively tavern culture, and the triumphant energy of pilgrims finishing the historic Camino.
March dining focuses on comforting Galician classics, from steaming caldo gallego to tender pulpo á feira and savory seafood empanadas.
Lively evenings centre on crisp Albariño w**e served in traditional ceramic cups paired with slices of almond Tarta de Santiago.
With comfortable spring temperatures and fewer peak-season crowds, March offers an authentic, soulful glimpse into the true heart of Galicia.”
Following on from the visit of Galicia GAA as part of the World Games Twinning initiative last July, the Clashmore/Kinsalebeg GAA and LGFA clubs have been invited to visit Santiago de Compostela, a UNESCO World Heritage Old Town and end point of the historic Camino Walk, in March 2027.
This will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for our players, coaches, club officials and supporters and everyone is invited to come along.
The trip takes place around the weekend of Saturday March 13th and Sunday March 14th and we recommend people aim to be in Santiago by Friday afternoon at the latest to enjoy the weekend. The centrepiece of the weekend is participation in the Celtic Cup on Saturday March 13th, an annual Gaelic football tournament organised by Galicia GAA involving 8 teams in the men’s competition and 10 teams in the LGFA competition.
There will be a celebratory dinner and disco to celebrate the Celtic Cup on Saturday evening March 13th also which will coincide nicely with Ireland v France at 9:10pm in ‘Super Saturday’ of the Six Nations 2027. We have registered teams in both the ladies and men’s competitions – we need a minimum of 10 players on each panel with the panels capped at 16 players.
There are direct flights to Porto from Dublin and options to Santiago de Compostela with short connections from Dublin, Cork and Shannon. Club members that fly directly into Porto airport can get transfers from there to Santiago. As it is the off season for the Camino, hotels are extremely reasonable - average price is around €80-120 per room per night.
We are currently trying to get an idea of how many people will be looking to travel. Please fill in the Expression of Interest form below if you would be interested in travelling and are looking for more information.
