Disclaimer: I fully understand every person has a different set of circumstances that dictate their physical and mental wellbeing. These are GENERAL observations.
1) Being overweight will restrict how you live your life at SOME point. Either your health will dictate how much fun you can have or your body image will. Being able to walk up stairs instead of waiting 10mins for a lift. You have 1 body and you have to look after it. All I could think was in an emergency on the ship most of these people haven't got a hope of surviving. It actually made me sad.
2) Fitness doesn't have a LOOK. Being fit is about being able to do whatever you want to do. Climb the leaning tower of Pisa? Sure! Walk 40 mins in 28⁰ heat? No issues there. I climbed to the top while others struggled to catch their breath or crawled up for fear of slipping. An elderly man almost collapsed from the heat in Rome.
3) Habits remain on holidays. I saw people LOAD up their plates at the buffet. Im talking one of everything. Breakfasts that were easily 2000 calories. Me? Eggs, bacon, bagel and some fruit most mornings. BECAUSE THATS WHAT I DO! The gym? Yes please. Because I feel good after it. A lot of others in there too. It has to be a lifestyle or else it's forced. Forced never lasts when under pressure.
4) You don't realise until you go on holidays how stressful "real life" actually is. Ireland has one of the highest rates of high BP in the world. Being away highlights why. The constant stress of work, family, bills, driving on busy roads (with sh*te drivers), the darker, colder weather for 80% of the year. It hits hard when youre away. You swear to change but society makes it hard.
5) Airports bug me. People queueing an hour before a desk opens, not being able to scan a passport and look at a screen, e4 for a bottle of water, holding up security because you've got to the desk before getting sorted and generally having a total lack of awareness of people around you.
Did I miss anything? 😂
