Walking into a new gym can feel intimidating, especially when you’ve never trained before. That’s exactly why we’re starting a brand new Beginners Class at Silverback Jiu Jitsu.

This class is built specifically for complete beginners. No experience needed. No pressure to “keep up.” Just a group of people all starting together, learning the basics step by step in a welcoming environment.

Whether you want to:
• get fitter
• build confidence
• learn self defence
• meet good people
• or simply try something new

this is the perfect place to start.

Everyone was a beginner once. The hardest part is showing up for the first class.

Last weekend, we brought a small group from our kids up to Kilkenny to compete in the Kilkenny Grappling League at

For most of these young athletes, it was their first time stepping onto the competition mats, and they showed incredible heart, courage, and determination throughout the day. As always, there were wins and losses, but more importantly, there was a huge amount of learning and experience gained.

We’re extremely proud of how each of them carried themselves and represented the team. Days like this are a big part of their development, both on and off the mats.

A big thank you to the team at Myalo Martial Arts for hosting such a well-organised and welcoming event. It’s an excellent competition for kids starting their journey, and we’re already looking forward to heading back on June 14th.

⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️🟥🟥🟥⬛️⬛️ for Alex Castro in what can only be described as an unbreakable Iron Man. 62 minutes non stop, 42 opponents including 6 black belts, and he was only subbed in the last round Heart of a lion !! Never seen the likes of it. Super human.

That now makes it 4 black belts at Silverback Wexford.

SBJJ Grading 28th of February 2026. A massive day and there was some energy in that room.

Huge congratulations to everyone that graded and striped yesterday. Couldn’t be more proud. There was so much heart and respect in the room.

Another amazing display of Jiu Jitsu today at SBJJ. Many promotions and stripes at our kids grading. So proud of how these kids carry themselves. How they help each other and respect each other, all whilst trying to choke each other unconscious. ! There was a real sense of calm in the room today. Calm in chaos, it’s a beautiful and unique thing. So so proud. The future is bright 🦍🦍🦍

As we look back on 2025, there are so many moments to be grateful for — but if we had to sum the year up in one word, it would be growth ❤️

It’s been another strong year for SBJJ. We added MMA classes with the legend , and we were proud to promote two new black belts — and 🥋⬛️

More than anything, we’re incredibly lucky to have the people we have in this club. The coaches, the teammates, and the atmosphere that pushes everyone forward week after week — that’s what makes SBJJ special.

2026 is shaping up to be another big year, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
