In the late 1930s, the Mulgannon Harriers were the G.A.A. standard-bearers in the south end of Wexford town before they disbanded. In 1941, when a football street league was started in Wexford, John Murphy, Kevin Nolan, Jimmy Williams and a few others got together and decided to enter a team. They had no jerseys, so they approached the members of the Mulgannon Harriers committee for a loan of thei

rs. They said that they could on condition that they use another name. John Murphy, who was later to lead the club as Chairman, suggested the name “Faythe Harriers.”

Both of these clubs only played football, as hurling wasn’t played much in Wexford town at the time. The Faythe Harriers took place in that Street league in 1941 and the following two years saw them playing in the Junior Football Championship. 1943 saw the first county title coming to the club. For the next few years the club managed to struggle along without achieving any note worthy successes. Frawley, who was attached to the Christian Brothers School at the time, started a novice street league in football and hurling. Once again the name Faythe Harriers re-emerged. Not only did they participate in football, but for the first time they entered a hurling team. With Brother Frawley, John Murphy, Paddy Cullen and a few others helping out, the club actually won the hurling league. The Faythe Harriers had arrived. They were to set in motion a club that was to achieve every honour in hurling in County Wexford. During the sixties, the Harriers dominated club hurling in Wexford at juvenile, Minor and Under-21 level. However, the expected avalanche of Senior titles did not arrive due to a number of reasons. Although we won our third Senior title in 1965, we had to wait until 1981 for our next title. In between, we only played in two other finals in 1968 and 1979. We played in three finals since our last win. 1984, 1985 and 1991, losing them all to Buffers Alley. U-21 teams under “Heffo” Walsh put back to back titles together in 1987 and ’88 with many of these lads winning a junior championship in 1989. However, in the early 1990s, our Bord na nÓg committee, under Paud Browne and the late Jimmy Murphy, decided to make a major effort to put our under-age teams back at the top of the ladder again. It was a slow process but culminated in the club winning its first-ever Under-14 title in 1994. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength at underage level, winning two Co. Premier Juvenile titles and two Premier Minor titles. These underage titles were the backbone of the momentous Senior title win in 2001.

A massive well done to Lee Chin on his recent Board Gáis Legends Tour of Croke Park

Over the course of a fascinating hour long tour, Lee took an intimate group from across the country through his personal memories of being both a fan and player in Croke Park, which included sitting in the upper Davin Stand during Wexford's 2004 Leinster Championship win, to his first memory of playing in Croke Park as a primary school student with thanks to fellow Faythe Harriers man Joe Kearns.

And of course - Wexford's 2019 minor and senior Leinster hurling title victories of Kilkenny.

A handful of club members were lucky enough to be in attendance to share the experience.

Well done Lee, a much deserved honour for a true legend of club & county. 💜💛

Good results for our adult teams over the weekend with both our Senior and Junior A teams securing victories in their respective championships. Our Seniors defeated St Mogues Gaa Club Fethard on Friday night on a scoreline of 1-19 to 0-11, with Lee Chin being our top scorer on 0-12. That gives us 2 wins from our 3 games to date. Our next game is next Sunday afternoon against County Champions St Martins in Wexford Park at 3.45 pm.
Our Junior A team secured our 3rd win from 3 games with victory over Tara Rocks Gaa Club on Saturday night in Parc Carman on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-12, with Darragh Browne being our leading scorer with 0-8. We top the group with 2 group games remaining. Our next game is away to Blackwater next Friday night at 7.30 pm.

Who needs a gym when you’ve got Curracloe Beach on your doorstep!!!

Our U16, Minor and Junior girls traded their boots for bare feet on Thursday evening as they took to the sand for a beach training session. There were plenty of sprints, lots of laughs, a few tired legs, daunting dunes but even more craic!

A fantastic evening spent bonding and making memories in one of Wexford’s finest settings.

Well done to all the players and coaches for making it such an enjoyable session. 💜💛
