Doctors frequently tell us to eat our greens, but soon they could be prescribing broccoli. A powder that contains concentrated extract from the vegetable could prove indispensable to people with type 2 diabetes. The extract reduced blood sugar levels by up to 10 per cent in people with the disease.

This is regarding malpractices of Shalby Hospital of Ahmedabad - Dr Vikram Shah....Today as I ( Prasun Kundu - Zonal Business Manager, Idea Cellular Limited, Gujarat cell no 9824004696 ) walk out of Shalby Hospital (one of the most renowned hospitals of Ahmedabad) with my four year son clutching me tightly, am filled with remorse, anxiety, disregard and totally distraught thinking how low medical profession can stoop down to with regard to integrity and humanity...
Could not resist myself from sharing this on social media as I want you all to take a note of the incident and take learnings from this to avoid the same situation if we have to be in it God forbid...!!!
My four year old son fell down while playing with his friends and got a cut above the right eye... My wife rushed him to nearby Shalby Hospital emergency (as any mother will do) coz he was bleeding profusely from the wound inflicted due the fall.
The paramedics gave first aid and said doctors will attend to him in sometime. In the meantime the paramedics spoke to a senior doctor Parthiv Agrawal explaining him the case. We were told that the procedure will require administration of general anesthesia and CLW (Contested Lacerated Wound) needs to be done which will cost anywhere between Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20000....!!!! We told them to go ahead with the procedure in absence of competitive knowledge and also emotions getting delicately balanced over logic...!!!
The procedure was done (in ten minutes) and to our utter surprise the child was shifted to ICU...!!! (this is how they create impact...!!!). Post two hours of that he was shifted in the room stating "needs to be kept under close observation"
We opted for a premier room as child needs his mother by his side and we wanted to avoid any disturbance.
Following day morning we were told that the procedure has gone off well and that the child was recovering satisfactorily....
However, we were shocked when in the afternoon the hospital raised a bill of Rs. 130500/- Yes One Lakh Thirty Thousand Five Hundred Rupees....!!!
Fortunately the Doctor was on a visit to our room when I received this message and he himself was shocked to know the amount... I raised my concern with competent authorities of the hospital yesterday itself...
To my surprise, I was informed in the morning by hospital authorities that the bill was revised downwards to Rs. 82700/-...!!! Explaining that they have charged now one level down....!!!
You must be wondering, what are these levels of changes? Even I was... Till I was explained that for economy, twin sharing room, single occupancy and suite (in that prder) charges for everything including, room rent, doctor, emergency, OT, ICU, anesthesia, pathology tests, hospital care doubles....!!! Example - if OT charges are Rs. 2000/- for economy, it will be 4000/- for twin sharing, 8000/- for Premier and 16000/- for Suite...!!!
Owing to this policy, the bill gets inflated by anywhere between 5 to 7 times if you are two levels up....!!!
Isn't it atrocious? Most of these hospitals are run like a five star hotel and in a hotel are we charged differently in restaurant owing to the class of room (standard, delux, super delux or suite) ??? The restraint has the same menu card irrespective of the room we stay in... However, they charge differently for the rooms...
Moot question is why is it different in a hospital??
Again, my disconnect stems out of the fact that any institution has a right to have its own menu card (charges for different procedures eg. Angioplasty, knee replacement, other surgery etc.) which may change as per the room we take....
Isn't it our right to know what kind of charges are applicable on which scenario for us to make a decision whether to go ahead or look for options???
Isn't it violation of MRTP???
We all would have fallen while we were growing up with cuts and bruises inflicted. However, in our times, more often than not the doctor used to give stitches and send back home (with an injection of anti tetanus as a precaution) with instruction to come back after a week to get the stitches removed...
Today, I experienced how we get bullied by the so called medical professionals who are only bringing disgrace to this Noble Profession (so I thought till today afternoon...!!!)
Am attaching the photo of my kid for everyone to know the gravity of wound inflicted and hence the treatment which would have gone towards the same...
Am also attaching the bill which has been slapped on us with full details...
I writing this post to make all of you aware of the irregularities in medical profession... God forbid, if any one of you come to a situation like this, please ask for the menu card before n proceeding to give your consent.... or would like to explore options....
Kindly share this post as much as you can to save some parents in future.......

Train your Brain to fall asleep in 60_seconds with the 4-7-8 breathing technique...
And what is it ?
The method was developed by a wellness practitioner, Harvard-educated Dr. Andrew Weil, who studies meditation, breathing, and how it can be used to counteract stress. It’s very easy and simple. You breathe through your nose for four second, hold it for seven seconds, and exhale through your mouth for eight seconds. It slows down your heart rate, and it also releases chemicals in our brain that soothe you.
If you are skeptical like me, you should try it! I tried it, and trust me it works! It ended up working like a total charm. I was out before I reached my fourth repetition and it tends to knock me out easily in less than a minute.
This method is great for more than just falling asleep though. In the moment when we are stressed, our endocrine system releases adrenaline through our adrenal glands. This elevates your heart rate, and can make you feel jittery and unwell. It makes you breathe rapid and shallow. But, using this breathing method, you counteract the natural effects of adrenaline and your body is forced to slow down your heart rate. It doesn’t have a choice! At the beginning, you may feel a tad uncomfortable. After a while, you really do feel your heart rate slow and your mind clear. So, why don’t you try this tonight and tell us what you think

Do you know about SINK TESTS ? These are tests performed on you, where samples are thrown directly into the sink without any testing. The laboratories and Doctor's who prescribed these test, share the money you were charged. Read on..
There is a huge nexus among corporate hospitals, pharma companies and doctors who engage in exploitative practices called 'target system' and 'cuts' with the motive of earning profits, claims a book by doctors, who broke their silence on rampant malpractices.
In a chilling narrative, the book 'Dissenting Diagnosis' says 'packages' offered by multispeciality corporate hospitals, incorporating a range of tests under 'master checkup', not only drains an individual of his hard-earned money but the collected samples go down the 'sink' as well.
The book launched last week lays bare the rot in the medical sector as it gives first person accounts of patients, doctors and pathologists from across the country.
In the book, a pathologist, who did not want to be named, explains that sink tests essentially means samples collected from patients are just thrown into the wash basin without testing as doctors prescribe such tests, which by mutual understanding, are "not actually carried out" by the pathologist.
Dr Arun Gadre and Dr Abhay Shukla, the authors of the book, have also extensively documented other exploitative practices such as the 'target system', the concept of 'cuts' and how corporate hospitals work like industries with the sole motive of the 'shareholders' being "more and more profit".
Gadre and Shukla write how a senior super-specialist urologist had to leave a corporate hospital because its young MBBS CEO castigated him for not performing a particular operation for removal of a kidney stone where there was no need for any such procedure.
"These hospitals run on a perverted concept. Their only purpose is to satisfy the interests of their shareholders. The more profit the better. They go on prescribing needless investigations and surgeries," Gadre says.
Shukla says a person had to sell his apartment after a major corporate hospital came up with a bill of an astounding Rs 42 lakh for the treatment of his wife. "The actual expenditure cannot possibly even come close to this."
Both the authors, associated with Pune-based SATHI which specialises in policy advocacy related to health care, underline the need for a radical "restructuring" of the Medical Council of India (MCI), which they say has turned a blind eye to the systemic assualt on ethics in the medical profession.
"There are hospitals which depict pictures of a person, before and after a surgery. It is impossible to check. Whatever actions the MCI ethics committee take in Delhi, the state councils defy.
"They get into collaboration with the particular doctor. What is the point of taking up the issue with the central MCI when you know the state would defy it and not listen to it. We are now putting pressure on the Central government and saying that the state councils must listen to the observations and punishments by the central MCI," he said.
Among other shocking revelations, the book describes how in the absence of serious ailments, a "pretence" of surgery is performed, a patient is given anesthesia and some stitches are put on the skin, to show that an operation has been done.
Nowadays doctors do not even record the patient's history properly, said Dr Punyabrata Goon, a General Practitioner in Kolkata. They just write out a list of investigations as they get a commission for doing that, he says.
"Almost all the laboratories in our area give 50 per cent commission and almost all the doctors accept these commissions. For many doctors, the money earned through commissions is much more than that earned from fees. In our area, the commission rates are: X-rays 25 per cent, and 33 per cent for MRIs and CT scans," he says.
A young doctor's lament, on him being pulled up by the CEO of a corporate hospital for "low conversion rate" of 15 per cent as opposed to 40 per cent fixed by the management is also recorded in the book.
Conversion rate means out of the total number of patients seen by the doctor, the percentage which are advised to undergo surgery or procedures.

To all our Health Conscious friends here...
TAKING DIET SUPPLEMENTS IS UNHEALTHY ....INCLUDING THOSE FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND ENERGY SUPPLEMENTS. !!!
A large new study by the United States federal government found that injuries caused by dietary supplements lead to more than 20,000 emergency room visits a year, many involving young adults with cardiovascular problems after taking supplements marketed for weight loss and energy enhancement.
The study is the first to document the extent of severe injuries and hospitalisations tied to dietary supplements, a rapidly growing $32 billion a year industry that has attracted increased scrutiny in the past year and prompted calls for tougher regulation of herbal products. Critics of the industry said the findings provided further evidence that the relatively low level of regulation in the US put many at risk. But industry representatives said the products were used by roughly half of all Americans and the data showed only a tiny fraction sustained major injuries.
The new study was published on Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine and led by health authorities at the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The researchers tracked emergency room visits at a large network of hospitals around the country over a 10-year period.
Among the injuries cited were severe allergic reactions, heart trouble, nausea and vomiting, which were tied to a broad variety of supplements including herbal pills, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Roughly 10%, or about 2,150 cases yearly, were serious enough to require hospitalization, the researchers found.
In comparison, prescription drugs are responsible for 30 times as many trips to the emergency room each year.
One finding was that emergency room visits caused by supplements occurred predominantly among young people, whereas those for pharmaceutical products occurred in large part among older adults, said Dr Andrew Geller, a medical officer at the division of health care quality promotion at the CDC and the lead author of the study. "The contrast is striking," he said.
Half of these cases among people aged 20-34 were caused by a supplement that was marketed for weight loss or energy enhancement, commonly producing symptoms like chest pain, heart palpitations and irregular heart rhythms.
These products typically contain a variety of herbs and extracts and are widely advertised online, in magazines and on TV with names like Hydroxycut, Xenadrine, Raspberry Ketones and Black Jack Energy , the researchers said. Weight loss and energy supplements have been implicated in serious problems, including one outbreak in 2013 that sickened 97 people and caused at least one death and three liver transplants.
