City Police came out with a dominating display as they brushed aside Reserve Bank of India (RBI) 3-0 to win the Samarpan Charity Football Tournament. In the final, bankmen were no match to the verve displayed by the policemen on Sunday.

Vishal gave the winners the lead in the second minute itself before Yash Mehta made it 2-0 just three minutes later. RBI did well to fend off their rivals and tried to fight their way.

But it was not their day and even lost Dashrath Parmar in the 38th minute while pushing for the goal. Man of the match Arjun then made most of the numbers as he rounded off the show with a 40th minute strike to settle the score.

There was some consolation for the bankmen as Dhruv Chudasama was named as the player of the tournament for his six goals and five assists.

The fourth edition of JG Cup Football Tournament for under 14 and under 18 gets under way at the JG Campus of Excellence, off Sola Road, on January 19.

The under 14 championship has added importance as it will also serve as a selection trial for Nationals.

This section will see 13 district teams from across Gujarat participate with 250 players and officials, an official release said.

As many as 35 teams from the state will participate in the under 18 category with 400 players and officials, an official release said. Late evening matches will be played under floodlights

The five-day annual tournament is being organised in association with Gujarat State Football Association. The winner of under 14 will get a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and JG Cup while the winner of under 18 will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and JG Championship Trophy. Besides, there are several prizes for the players in both categories.
