Prichard “Digget” Colón was a Puerto Rican professional boxer whose promising career was tragically interrupted by a severe brain injury suffered during a fight in 2015. Born on September 19, 1992, Colón became known as one of boxing’s exciting young prospects, combining size, power, and an aggressive style. Before his final fight, he had built an undefeated professional record of 16 wins, including 13 by knockout.

On October 17, 2015, at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, Colón faced Terrel Williams. Colón entered the bout undefeated and had been building considerable attention in the boxing world. During the fight, he complained about punches to the back of his head, and Williams was later penalized for an illegal punch. Colón was knocked down twice in the ninth round. After the round, confusion in his corner led to his gloves being removed before the tenth round, and the referee ultimately stopped the contest and awarded Williams a disqualification victory.

After the fight, Colón became seriously ill in his dressing room and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors found bleeding in his brain and performed emergency surgery. He subsequently fell into a coma that lasted 221 days. After waking, he was left with severe disabilities and required extensive care and rehabilitation for many years.

Although his professional career had lasted only a few years, Colón’s story continued to resonate throughout the boxing community. His family remained beside him, documenting his long journey and continuing to hope for improvement. The boxing world also continued to remember him, with organizations and fighters recognizing the courage he and his family demonstrated throughout the years.

In August 2026, nearly eleven years after the fight that changed his life, Colón died at the age of 33. His father, Richard Colón, announced his passing, bringing an end to a decade-long journey marked by extraordinary hardship and resilience. Reports note that the specific cause of death was not publicly disclosed.

Prichard Colón will be remembered not only for what happened inside the ring, but also for the person he was before and after his career was interrupted. He was a young fighter with a 16–0 start and 13 knockouts, a decorated amateur background, and aspirations of reaching the highest level of professional boxing. His life became a reminder of the risks fighters face and of the importance of protecting athletes in combat sports.
