We are living in a strange world where we have to give the benefits of walking to those people who will do it more often.
There was a time when, if a human has to go from point A to point B, walking was the only option. In recent times, we have started questioning why we have to walk if we can take other more convenient means of commutation. Seems to be a logical question but we cannot ditch evolution.
Most of our body organs serve multiple functions eg the nose is for breathing and smelling, and the mouth is for eating and speaking. It is hard to believe that walking only serves to help us move from one place to another. Let's see some interesting facts:
Our calf muscle is also called the ‘Second Heart’ as it acts as a pump to push the blood up. Sitting puts extra effort on the heart while walking relaxes it thus lowering unwanted blood pressure.
There is a very strong correlation between walking and mental health. As we reduce our physical activity, our brain cells start to die. Walking makes us smarter.
The build-up of muscles due to walking boosts our metabolism and thus helps in burning excess glucose and fat in our bodies. It is highly unlikely to lose weight without a walking routine.
Our immunity is directly related to our bone health. Walking makes our leg bones stronger. Stronger bones mean stronger immunity.
Walking is a low-impact form of cardiovascular exercise and it does not cause any kind of stress on the joints or any other body part and has the least risk of injury.
Whether you walk in segments or all at once, making walking a regular habit will help it become second nature.
So, keep walking !
