Plan: To make individual, free birds
Kiln gods: No. group project. forever!
Expect magic… just not the kind you planned.
A little glaze melt, a little surprise… and suddenly they’re inseparable.
Kiln results are unpredictable. Sometimes chaotic, always interesting.

One of the most fascinating (and sometimes not-so-liked) parts of glazing is that the colour you see in liquid form has very little to do with how the piece will look after firing.
Glazes often go into the kiln looking dull, chalky, or completely different from what we imagine. And then, after hours in the kiln, they transform revealing their true colours, textures, and depth.
That moment of opening the kiln is always a mix of excitement and suspense. Every firing feels like a small surprise, no matter how many times you’ve done it.
These side-by-side images show just how the changes can be. From raw and unpredictable to finished and full of character..
