Āhāra: The Yogic Science of Nourishment
"Food is not just calories. It is medicine. It is consciousness."
What we eat influences far more than our physical health—it shapes our energy, clarity, resilience, and overall quality of life. Rooted in the wisdom of yoga and supported by modern nutrition science, Āhāra: The Yogic Science of Nourishment is a three-day immersive retreat that explores food as a powerful foundation for healing and wellbeing.
Led by Dr. Gauri Rokkam, a Holistic Whole-Food Plant-Based (WFPB) Nutritionist, Yoga and Nature Cure Therapist, this retreat brings together the insights of Nutrition Science, Nature Cure, Yoga Philosophy, and Vedanta to offer a holistic understanding of nourishment and health.
Over three immersive days, participants will explore how the body naturally heals when the right conditions are created, while learning practical tools that can be integrated into everyday life. The retreat combines thoughtful discussions with hands-on learning, helping participants understand the body's innate intelligence, restore balance naturally, and adopt sustainable lifestyle practices that support long-term health and wellbeing.
Rather than focusing on temporary dietary changes, the workshop encourages a deeper shift in the way we relate to food, health, and conscious living—making it relevant for anyone seeking lasting wellness through authentic yogic principles.

Mysuru’s place in modern yoga history was shaped through scholarship, royal patronage and dedicated teaching—creating an environment in which yoga could be preserved, studied and shared with a wider public.
With the support of Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya established the Mysore Palace Yogashala at Jaganmohan Palace in 1933. Here, he developed and taught a dynamic approach that linked breath with movement, while adapting the practice to the needs, abilities and discipline of each student. Through public demonstrations, structured teaching and sustained royal support, yoga began to gain renewed relevance in the city.
His landmark work Yoga Makaranda, published in Mysore in 1934, further documented this evolving approach. The students who trained under him—including B.K.S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois, Indra Devi and B.N.S. Iyengar—went on to shape influential yoga traditions across the world.
What began within a Yogashala in Mysuru became part of a global movement, establishing the city as one of the most important centres in the evolution of modern yoga and strengthening its enduring identity as .

Most people know Mysuru as the birthplace of modern yoga. Few know that it also played a remarkable role in preserving yoga's knowledge long before it reached the world.
Under the patronage of Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, scholars, artists, and court pandits of the Mysore royal court came together to create the Sritattvanidhi—a visionary manuscript that documented yoga with extraordinary detail. It stands as a testament to Mysuru's enduring commitment to preserving and passing on India's yogic heritage.
As we celebrate the 4th Edition of Mysuru Yoga Utsava, we also celebrate the city whose royal vision helped safeguard a legacy that continues to inspire practitioners across the globe.
