Dr Seshadri Iyengar Dr. Seshadri Iyengar is a freelance, Neo-Classical Bharatnatyam dancer, teacher and choreographer, a Homoeopathic Physician and Yoga instructor based in Bangalore. As the Artistic Director of the Iyengar Centre for Fine Arts he conducts classes in Bharatanatyam and Yoga.

Karaṇa Kāraṇa: encompassing Nāṭyadharmī and Lokadharmī in Nṛtya
Myriad of Emotions through versatility of Karaṇa-s

The quintessential aspect of dance is embellishment in movement and dramatics in characterisation; this is when Nṛtya becomes wholesome embracing the essence of Nṛtta and Nāṭya. What else other than the Karaṇa-s of Nāṭyaśāstra, can offer this strength through its vocabulary (based on the reconstruction work of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam). On one side as Karaṇa-s and Karaṇāmśa-s they cater to utmost embellishment for Nāṭyadharmī, and on the other side as the most fundamental movement of Aṅga-s and Upāṅga-s they lend themselves to be absorbed as Lokadharmī with the most naturalistic expression. Let us explore these possibilities through the presentation of some special and popular compositions of classical literature set to suitable music.

ICFA is happy to host yet another workshop under the workshop series.
Do join us on 3rd and 4th of June 2023 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to learn a very unique and interesting peace of choreography by Jayaprabha Menon a mohiniattam exponent.

This workshop can be attended by dancers of all dance forms.
The objective is to share the nuances of Abhinaya and its approach.

The play arises from the ithihasa Mahabharata telling the story of Shikhandi but chooses to seek answers and resolutions in a modern day society that exposes its confusion, fear, and lack of empathy for those who identify themselves beyond the binary. The play is an attempt to seek new definitions, new meaning to roles and responsibilities that have been historically gender specific.
