The best coaches don’t just know the most—they notice the most, and they are also the best listeners.
Without technical knowledge, coaching becomes nothing more than motivational speaking. But technical knowledge alone isn’t enough either.
If a coach only corrects what is visible, they may confidently solve the wrong problem.
Listening is a performance skill. A shooter might say, “Everything felt good, but it’s still a 9.” A great coach doesn’t stop there. They observe the subtle details—a grip that’s slightly too tight, shallow breathing, a rushed trigger press, or incomplete follow-through.
The best coaches catch what isn’t obvious. They listen beyond words, observe beyond the shot, and solve the real problem—not just the visible one.
