Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi becomes the President of "The World Gatka Federation"

The World Gatka Federation is making efforts to promote and spread the heritage game of Sikhs Gatka as a sport at the global level. The seat of the President of The World Gatka Federation was vacant due to the recent demise of the President of The World Gatka Federation, former Union Minister S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Ji and in his place, former Sports, Youth Services and NRI Minister of Punjab S. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi Ji has been selected. This information was shared by General Secretary S. Rajinder Singh Sohal Ji Hona and said that S. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi himself is also a prominent player who has earned a name in the field of sports at the global level in rifle shooting. Apart from hosting the Asian Games and International Games, he has also been the Commonwealth Games Organization Committee Member, Commonwealth Advisory Board Member, Executive Member Olympic Association of India and President of Chandigarh Olympic Association. He has also received the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award from the Punjab Government for his achievements in the field of sports and he has also been MLA from Guru Harsahai constituency for four consecutive terms. After Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi became the President, Baba Lakhbir Singh Ratwara Sahib bestowed the Siropa on Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and entrusted him with the responsibility of President of The World Gatka Federation. During this, General Secretary of Gatka Federation of India Mr. Baljinder Singh Toor, Vice President of Punjab Gatka Association Mr. Davinder Singh, Arshad Dali, Ji were present.

Khelo India Gatka League 2024-25 kicked off last yesterday at NS NIS Patiala with an exciting Opening Ceremony. Sh. Sumit Miglani Director NS NIS Patiala and Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal (Vice President Gatka FederationofIndia) has inaugurated this event after lamp lightning on 10 January,
2025. Around 128 talented athletes from 16 states are showcasing their skills from
January 10 to 12, celebrating the rich heritage of Gatka.
Sh. Sibananda Mishra Deputy Director, Sh. Sudheer Reddy Deputy Director, Sh. Rajnish
Mishra Assistant Director, Sh. Shashwat Jha Assistant Director and NIS staff were present
in this event. The Sports Authority of India (SAl), in collaboration with National Sports Federations (Gatka Federationof India), conducts the Khelo India Gatka League tournaments for multiple age
groups.
