A lovely conversation with the Principal of Woodlands House School, Mrs. Navneet Bhandari, about something we both deeply care about — books and the habits they build in young minds.
She shared that the school is intentionally working to instill a love of reading from an early age, creating an environment where curiosity, imagination, and learning can grow naturally.
I had the chance to share my vision for Sprout & Sport — building children’s confidence and life skills through stories, play, and movement.
It was special to see her connect with Leela’s 1st Bike and appreciate how simple stories can help children relate to courage, trying again, and believing in themselves.
Conversations like these remind me that when schools, stories, and play come together, we create powerful learning experiences for children.

What if the most important learning in childhood happens during play?
When children run, imagine, climb, build, and even fall — they are learning some of life’s most important lessons.
At Sprout & Sport, we believe childhood should have more play and less pressure.
Through stories, books, and workshops, we help parents rediscover why play truly matters.
Save this post to remind yourself:
Play is not wasted time — it’s childhood’s greatest teacher.

Childhood to Early Days
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1981 and raised in Compton, California, Serena Williams began playing tennis at the age of 3, coached by her father, Richard Williams, alongside her sister, Venus. With limited resources and practicing on cracked public courts, she didn’t lose hope and went on to develop her power-driven style and fearless mentality.
By her teens, Serena’s talent was undeniable. She turned professional at just 14 years old, proving she had the drive and skill to compete with the world’s best.
🎾 Professional Career (1995–2022)
Serena made her mark instantly, and what followed was one of the most dominant careers in tennis history:
23 Grand Slam Singles Titles (Open Era record)
14 Grand Slam Doubles Titles (with sister Venus)
4 Olympic Gold Medals
319 Weeks as World No. 1
🔥 Nicknamed the “Queen of the Court”, Serena’s explosive serve, resilience, and fighting spirit revolutionized women’s tennis. Beyond the sport, her impact on fashion, culture, and women’s empowerment made her a global icon.
💡 Takeaway for Young Athletes
Serena’s journey from cracked courts in Compton to the biggest stages in tennis proves that greatness comes from persistence, belief, and breaking barriers.
She showed the world that you don’t just play the game—you can change it forever.

🌟 Athlete Highlight: Michael Jordan🌟
Michael Jordan’s journey wasn’t easy - he was told he was “too short” for varsity in high school and faced rejection early on. Instead of giving up, he dominated on junior varsity, became a college legend with his clutch shot at UNC, and was named the ACC’s greatest athlete.
Drafted third overall in 1984, MJ transformed basketball with 6 championships, 5 MVPs, and a style that made “His Airness” a global icon. Those Air Jordans and his fierce competitiveness changed the game on and off the court.
Our takeaway: Getting cut didn’t define him - what happened after did. Jordan’s story proves that every setback is a setup for a bigger comeback.
