Located at Chennai (formerly known as Madras), the Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) was the first sailing Club in the South of India. It was founded in 1911 by the then Chairman of The Madras Port Trust – Mr. Francis Spring in what was called the Timber Pond area of the Madras harbour. Now, a century later, you will find that RMYC is still pursuing the ideals laid down at the very beginning. The Clu
b’s primary purpose is “to promote the sport of sailing” in all its aspects. In the century gone by, one is proud to be associated with an institution that has done exactly what it set out to do. We at RMYC pride ourselves in being an active, inclusive and family friendly Sailing Club, working together to encourage participation in the sport we all enjoy. Old or young, experienced or novice we welcome all those whose aim is to have “fun” on the waters. From just a half a dozen races a year the Club now puts on a full and varied programme of racing (National & International) and cruising events all round the year to cater for sailors of every skill level. With the fantastic sailing conditions that the coast off Chennai has to offer, our sailors are a part of the National Squad, represented the country in many international sailing events including the Asian Games. A family friendly club to race, learn or just have fun sailing. Open all days 10.00 am to 6.00 pm except Tuesday (weekly holiday). Clubhouse, with showers & changing facilities. Lunch & snacks available on all Sundays throughout the year & on racing / event days. We race on Sunday mornings all year round at 10am. Sizable collection of club boats for members to use.
