Our regular self-defence classes for men and women have re-commenced!

S-KAPE (pronounced ESCAPE) is an acronym for Shorei-Kan Assault Prevention & Evasion. This is a first of its kind self-defence system unlike any other self-defence system available today, as it is designed to teach participants not only how to physically deal with a threat, but more importantly we teach people how to be aware, to understand what behaviour puts them at risk, to prepare for a possible threat, etc.

The S-KAPE system is a result of exhaustive research, understanding of cultural and social conditions, work place culture, cultural clothing restrictions, etc.

S-KAPE provides viable, tangible solutions in real-world scenarios to overcome molestation, abuse, kidnap, assault and r**e situations.

At S-KAPE, we emphasize Awareness training.

Why is Awareness training important?
Simply because the earlier you spot the threat, the more time you have to choose your response, whether that is to run, to call for help, to challenge or fight depending on the scenario. The less aware you are, the less time you have to react and therefore the fewer choices you have.

Awareness is the greatest self-defence skill you can have.

Escaping from a rear bear hug. Explaining the technique and getting a young participant at our Women’s Day Self-defence Workshop yesterday, to understand the process, work through the challenge, understand how every counterattack affects the attacker when struck properly and learn and deploy the technique.

Following the theme, our maxim for the event was that might is right.

We had 20 ladies from all walks of life attend the workshop where we stressed the importance of awareness to prevent dangerous situations, how to prepare for an eventuality and physical techniques and skills to protect themselves from a range of attacks.

We also stressed that the purpose of the workshop was NOT to teach techniques, but rather a to showcase scenarios and show the women what they were capable of. These techniques cannot be learned in a single workshop and require hours of repetition for them to become hardwired as a reflex.

At S-KAPE, we teach awareness as a skill, no different to learning how to physically block/defend, counter and escape. How many self-defence schools you know teach awareness as a skill?

On December 13th, S-KAPE was invited to present a seminar on ‘Self Defence In The Digital Age’ for AnitaB.org, a worldwide platform that brings women in technology together. The event held at KLA, was attended by over 100 women from such powerhouse companies as PayPal, Oracle, Ford, Qualcomm, etc.

S-KAPE was undoubtedly the show-stopper of the evening. We were the first presenters in all the events AnitaB has conducted in Chennai this year, to receive a standing ovation! We also rated a rating of ‘Excellent’ by 100% of the respondents!
