CBSE South Zone Badminton Tournament update -
1920 teams participated in different categories.
256 Teams from Tamilnadu, Telegana & Andhrapradesh participated in the Girls U17 category.
In each round, every team has to play 3 matches - Singles, Doubles and Reverse Singles.
Gitika (Apple Badminton) and Manishaa (Shasu Academy) represented Vels Vidyashram in the Girls U17 category.
They played 7 rounds to reach the Semifinal stage.
In the Quarterfinals, one of the Players they played against was Akshaya, India Ranking 25. Lost the First Singles, came back from 1set down to win the Doubles and then won the Reverse Singles. It was a thrilling finish in the Quarters.
In the Semifinals they Played against Sucithra Academy and one of the players in Sucithra academy is Muskaan Khan (India Top 3 Player in Girls U17 category, represented India in World BWF Junior tournaments)
Missed the Finals berth by 5 points , going down in the Doubles 10-15, 15-4, 10-15.
Gitika and Manishaa are the best pair in the Semifinals stage too and the deserving team to go the finals as Muskaan Khan partner in doubles is a player we can beat.
If we had won the Doubles, we could have won the reverse singles easily.
We would have been one of the Top 2 teams in South Zone (Tamilnadu,Telegana & Andhrapradesh).
Happy with the performance of Gitika and Manishaa in their first Zonal appearance.
