Chu gar Mantis basic demonstration by Shifu Rupam Roy.
Chu gar or Chu ga or Chu ka mantis is one of the rarest & oldest styles of Southern Praying Mantis Kung fu. This is the oldest branch in terms of origin and is the probable origin of the Southern Mantis style by way of age from which the other branches were derived. Nowadays Chu gar Mantis is extremely rare to be found. In the Indian city of Kolkata a rare lineage of Chu gar Mantis came directly from China & the system was initially taught exclusively to the Hakka community of the city. Shifu Rupam Roy is one of the inheritors of the lineage. In this video he is demonstrating a basic block & attack during a belt gradation exam on 23/08/2026.

Hung gar Chin gee kuen

Hung Gar (or Hung Ga) is one of the most famous Southern Chinese martial arts, originating in 17th-century Guangdong province. It was founded by Hung Hei-Gun, a student of the Shaolin Abbot Jee Sin Sim See, and was created as a fighting system to overthrow the ruling Qing Dynasty.

Chin Gee Kuen (戰字拳) is a fundamental form in Hung Gar. The name roughly translates to “Character ‘War’ Fist”, referring to the Chinese character 戰 (chin/zin), which shapes the stance pattern used in the form.
Chin Gee Kuen is the first hand form taught in Hung Gar. It focuses on building strong basics rather than flashy movements.
Stances: Emphasizes the low, stable horse stance (Ma Bu) to develop leg strength and balance
Structure: Teaches correct posture, alignment, and rooted power
Techniques: Simple punches, blocks, and basic hand movements
Purpose: Acts as the foundation for all advanced Hung Gar forms
In simple terms, it’s like the alphabet of Hung Gar—everything else in the system builds on the strength, discipline, and structure learned here.
