Under his mentorship of a former gold medalist from the JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, she won many national and international art competitions such as the Burjuman Painting Competition (under 18) in 1993. Tashi is also a trained Thangka Writer from the Menti tradition. Style & Influence
The artist works with oil and acrylic, and her style of work is surreal yet scenic, contemporary yet traditional. One can see a heady fusion of eastern and western styles in her paintings; while she has a strong Thangka base, her Impressionist style is outstanding. She is influenced by Buddhist philosophy and uses Buddhist symbolism in her paintings. Clouds and mountains are sacred for her. She is also in awe of the cosmos and the concept of infinity. “Spirituality and science are two sides of the same coin, and that is how I explore themes for my art.”
Work & Exhibitions
Tashi has done many commissioned work for art aficionados in India and abroad. A bulk order of 25 set of oil paintings done in the impressionist style, themed ‘India’ was commissioned by a Saudi business house in the year 2013. Her first solo work was hosted by Gallery Third Eye, Yemlur Bangalore . Her second solo show titled, ‘Journey’ was held on May 15, 2016 in Gangtok Sikkim. She conduct frequent workshops and training programs including a National workshop on Contemporary Thanka Art organized by DIC and MSME at Kalimpong Darjeeling. She has participated in many exhibitions and fairs organized by DIC and MSME. She is also the founder of Vajra Arts, a company that aims to produces world class collectible thankas and Himalayan Buddhist Artwork and provide training to artisan and promote this artform through awareness, promotions and art exhibitions and competitions.
