In the Somatic movement classes, CRP is my baseline
I love this position for multiple reasons
~ decompression of spine
Our spine is the pathway for central nervous system. When there is space created, it allows the fluids and information to flow freely
~ the factor of undoing
The gravity does the work and we have to ALLOW to release the muscle tensions that further improves our structural alignment
~ safety
Having ground underneath becomes the biggest support for nervous support. When the bones feel landed it makes you arrive in your body in a solid manner
~ creative boost & mental clarity
Many times in my own practice i have got the best ideas when I am in CRP as it is a reset to the rushing thoughts and makes the headspace clear
One of my client shared:
“We begin in a position called the constructive rest position. I love that word. I feel as though that word understands that some people need to construct rest. It is not something that can be easily fallen into. Observe the tension, send breath to it. The more you breathe, the more that life force reminds you of its power. The more it becomes a being within you. With its own desires. I sensed my breath desiring to reach to my pain. “
A constructed REST is today’s reality I believe when rest is something one easily ignores or undermine its power
And this is the kind of space I am trying to create with Somatic movement sessions
We begin with a rested body
We grow into movement with stillness
This is when the system feels safe enough to explore and expand its capacity
Only a rested body is capable of come out of fight/ flight/ freeze mode
