Held from 2nd to 3rd May 2026 at the Indoor Hall, Paljor Stadium Complex, Gangtok.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chairman of the State Sports Development Board, Shri Rinzing Chopel, for gracing the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest, and to the Hon’ble President of the Sikkim Olympic Association, Shri Kuber Bhandari, for attending the final day as the Chief Guest.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to respected Shri Jaslal Pradhan (Arjuna Awardee), respected Mrs. Sandhya Gurung (Dronacharya Awardee 2021), respected Mrs. Yangchen D. Tamang, Secretary of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, and respected Dr. R. B. Biswakarma, Director of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, for attending as Guests of Honour.

Sikkim Karate AGM Charts Ambitious Roadmap: 600+ State Champs, 700+ International Stars Incoming

Sikkim State Karate Do Association (SSKA) gathered at Paljor Stadium today for its annual general meeting, chaired by president Bijoy Gurung, plotting a powerhouse year ahead with grassroots push across all six districts. General Secretary Bidhan Ballav S***a dropped big reveals: 22nd State Karate Championship hits April 24-26 at Paljor Stadium with 600+ karatekas statewide, followed by the 2nd Sikkim Open International Karate Championship in October at Gangtok—drawing 700+ fighters from Japan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and India for major sports tourism boost.

Historic Triumph: Babyana Gurung Secures Sikkim’s First National Kata Medal

Babyana Gurung clinched a bronze medal for Sikkim at the 5th KIO National Karate Championships 2026 (U-21, Senior & Para Karate) held from February 26 to March 1 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium.

She secured the bronze medal in the Individual Senior Female Kata event, marking a significant achievement for the state.

In a press release, Sikkim State Karate-Do Association (SSKDA) general secretary Bidhan Ballav S***a stated that the victory is particularly noteworthy as it represents Sikkim’s first ever national medal in the Kata category a discipline that demands exceptional precision, form, and focus.

A three member SSKDA contingent, led by Coach Binam Gurung, represented the state at the championship. Karatekas Dewaker Chettri and Anurodh Rai also delivered commendable performances in their respective categories but narrowly missed out on medals.

The Association congratulated Babyana Gurung, the team members, and the coach for their efforts and extended its best wishes for future competitions.
