Some compositions become more than just music… they become a feeling. ❤️

“Sab Ban Than Ayi Shyam Pyari Re” is one such Thumri that is very close to my heart. Its tenderness, its poetry, and the beautiful way it allows a dancer to express bhaav make it truly special.

A small glimpse from my annual event Parampara Pravah, where my senior students brought this beautiful Thumri to life through Kathak. ✨

Conversations with Parents — Episode 9

“Why can’t my child do a solo?”

But have we ever stopped to ask—
Is the child ready, or are we just eager to see them on stage alone?

Does a solo prove learning?
Does being given a solo mean the child is progressing faster?

Or are we, as parents, sometimes turning a child’s artistic journey into a race?

Maybe the question isn’t why they can’t do a solo.
Maybe it’s why we are in such a hurry for them to.

Age doesn’t have to be a barrier.
Distance doesn’t have to be a barrier either.

These students, in their 40s and 50s, are working professionals and homemakers—yet they continue to make time for Kathak.

And the beautiful part? They are learning online.

They are breaking two barriers at once:
Age & Distance.

Because when you truly want to learn, you don’t wait for the “perfect time” or the “perfect circumstances.”
You simply make a beginning—and keep showing up. ❤️

Learning has no age. Art has no boundaries.

Parents often see the result they want, but forget to consider the time, practice and effort that goes into creating it.

And when the expected progress doesn’t come, we look for a reason — “Teacher kya kara rahe hain?”

Maybe the question isn’t “Why isn’t my child doing better?”
Maybe it’s “Are we giving them enough time to do better?”

Realistic expectations begin with realistic effort.
