My Unsung Hero(ine) - My Cycling Wife

In the exhilarating world of long-distance cycling, where every pedal stroke brings a sense of accomplishment, there exists a silent partner, often overlooked but undeniably essential—my beloved wife waiting patiently at home. While the cyclist in me embarks on epic journeys, conquering miles of road, it's my wife who silently bears the weight of sacrifices and tensions, offering unwavering support from the sidelines.

Sacrifices:
Behind everything that I’ve been able to accomplish in this cycling life of mine, is my wife who sacrifices her own comfort and peace of mind. She endures long hours of waiting, her heart fraught with worry as her husband battles the elements and the unknown on his two-wheeled adventure. While we brave the open road and terrain, she manages the household, shoulders responsibilities, and soothes the fears of children left behind. Birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings may pass with an empty seat at the table, as her husband pursues his passion on distant trails.

Tensions:
The tension mounts with each passing mile, as the wife grapples with a rollercoaster of emotions. She oscillates between pride and anxiety, celebrating her husband's achievements while wrestling with the constant fear of the dangers that lurk on the road. Every missed phone call or delayed update sends her heart racing, her mind conjuring worst-case scenarios until the reassuring sound of his voice brings temporary relief.

The Waiting Game:
Patience becomes her virtue as she navigates the unpredictable nature of long-distance cycling. Minutes turn into hours, and hours into days, as she waits for my return, clinging to memories and fleeting moments of connection through sporadic updates and occasional phone calls. Her faith in my abilities and our love sustains her through the lonely nights and the endless hours of solitude.

Support and Strength:
Amidst the sacrifices and tensions, there lies an unbreakable bond forged in love and mutual respect. My cycling wife is not merely a spectator but a pillar of strength, offering unwavering support and encouragement through the highs and lows of the journey. She celebrates my victories with unbridled joy and lends a comforting shoulder during moments of doubt and despair.

Just like my wife Megha, behind every long-distance cyclist, there stands a wife/ partner whose love knows no bounds—a silent yet steadfast presence in the midst of uncertainty and adventure. Their sacrifices and tensions may go unnoticed by many, but their contribution to our success is immeasurable.

Let us honour and celebrate the resilience and dedication of these unsung heroes, whose unwavering support fuels the passion of the cyclists they hold dear.

These last 6 months have been all about Discipline, Consistency and Commitment 🙃 What we’ve been able to achieve is a testament of the fact that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE 🕉️ all that we need is to find the right set of individuals to guide us on this lonely (yet beautiful) training journey and share their positive energies with us ❤️ I was/ am extremely fortunate to have Rohan bhai , Bade Bhaiya .sgt and .05.lal sir guiding me all throughout ❤️❤️❤️

With all of this we might have just pushed this to the limits of a normal professional family man 🙈 and hence, now we will be taking a pause to recover all that has been lost and very soon initiate the MASSIVE BUILDUP for the 1500K London-Edinburgh-London in August 2025 💪🏻 Untill then we shall only ride such rides which fit into the training plan 🙃 Bring IT ON 💪🏻💪🏻

1200 LRM GOH 2024 ✅ Completely dedicated to my coach, my guide, my elder brother Rohan Bhai ❤️🤗 He chalked out the ride plan, chose to ride this one with the gang; timed and paced the entire ride (+made adjustments on the go) - to culminate this EPIC RIDE in the exact same manner as it was supposed to - “a sub 84 hour finish” ❤️ It was an absolute honour to ride with you Rohan Bhai and thank for being there when I had hit the wall (figuratively) on the fourth day 🤗 I have picked up so many things from you ❤️

Special THANKS to coach sir for helping me QUICKLY recover from the stressed knee post the CKB ride (mid-December 2023) and get up to the required base fitness and strength positions for this ride 🙏🏽

Last but definitely not the least, now I am a BIG fan of the Southern Hospitality ❤️ “Take a Bow” Mohan sir and the entire team of for organising such a brilliant world class event and for taking so good care of everyone - right from all the meals (at all CPs and Support Stations too) and stay 🙏🏽 Loved the Ride ❤️ Gratitude to the entire Riding Community that you have built all around ❤️ Speaks Volumes of the Effort and Dedication that would have gone into this Ride ❤️ Hope to be back in 2028 as a volunteer to join the team ❤️

In case you don’t know, GOH is one of most prestigious, challenging, and beautiful 1200 LRMs in India. It starts in Bangalore and rides through the magnificent hills and ghats in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala 🚵‍♂️
