But does that automatically excuse Shepherd’s performance? Absolutely not.

From a player known as a T20 finisher, such a slow “test-like” innings was completely unexpected. He looked totally out of touch with the bat — unable to middle the ball, missing shots repeatedly, and struggling badly with timing.
