Today marks the completion of 10 years of The Gymnasium - Personal Fitness Studio.
It has been one hell of a ride every step of the way - a journey of continual learning and discovery. And this wasn’t just limited to the coaching part but the entrepreneurship and managerial roles as well.
Coaching is a craft that takes time to learn; you can never stop learning if you want to be the best at your craft. You cannot learn to coach in a book, on the Internet or sitting in a lecture class. You must coach to learn to coach. You must get your hands dirty, do the grunt work, make some mistakes, fail forward and keep learning.
For me, it has always been a constant balancing act with staying current with the latest methods & research, and doing what I know has worked. You must constantly iterate and fine tune to stay ahead of the game and do justice to your clients.
Much has changed in 10 years, but the fundamentals have not changed. I learned the hard way not to stray far from the basics. Look for simple solutions to complex problems. Coach your clients based on their lifestyle.
Thanks to all the clients I have been fortunate to work with - they were my teachers. I only hope that I was able to give them as much as they gave to me.

Almost a 100km walk in the last 9 days with more than 500+ flight of stairs ascended and descended. Calories burnt = ~20,000 kcal.

Not a single rep of strength training nor any cardiovascular exercise was performed other than to just move.

There is a difference between exercise and movement. Exercise is just one form of movement. It's a human made repetitive stereotyped pattern of movement.

Look at the rest of the nature. You never see non-humans doing anything resembling exercise. They hunt, gather, play, fight, flee.... move in all planes of motion but never do repetitive movements to stay in shape.

They move their bodies for pleasure, explore to stay alive and accomplish given tasks based on the environment.
