Your job description may not be keeping up with your capability.

AI is changing an important boundary:

Who gets to do what work.

A professional can increasingly take on tasks that once required another function.

Not to become an expert in everything.

But to remove unnecessary handoffs.

To understand adjacent work.

To connect different parts of a workflow.

To solve a larger problem.

The career opportunity is not:

Use AI to do more tasks.

It's:

Use AI to expand the work you can meaningfully own.

Think:

Borrow → Bundle → Own

Borrow an adjacent capability.

Bundle it with your existing expertise.

Own a bigger part of the outcome.

Your title may stay the same.

Your role doesn't have to.

A professional can be excellent at completing assigned work and still remain stuck at the same level.

The shift happens when you start moving from:

Task → Deliverable → Problem → Outcome → Business Impact

That doesn't mean doing more work.

It means taking responsibility for something more meaningful.

See a recurring problem?

Understand it.

Connect the people.

Challenge the process.

Use AI to handle more complexity.

Create a better result.

That is how your professional identity starts changing.

Not because you announced that you're ready for the next level.

Because people begin experiencing you differently.

Are you using AI to save time… or to change the way you work?

Most professionals use AI to finish emails, reports, meetings and repetitive tasks faster.

💜 Some events give you a stage. Some give you a chance to make a difference.

At the AI-SEC Community Hyderabad meetup, I had the opportunity to be a Flash Mentor for the “AI Career Ladder” track.

I went in thinking I would share a few ideas.

Instead, I walked away with something equally valuable—the curiosity, questions and ambition of the people I met.

One thing became very clear:

Building an AI career is not about collecting more tools.

It’s about learning to:
🔹 Understand the fundamentals
🔹 Ask better questions
🔹 Solve real problems
🔹 Communicate clearly
🔹 Keep learning
🔹 Turn knowledge into outcomes

And as AI and cybersecurity continue to converge, professionals will need something even more important—judgment, responsibility and the ability to think beyond what technology can do.

The best part of mentoring?

Helping someone see their next step a little more clearly. 🙌

Grateful to the organisers, speakers, volunteers and the entire AI-SEC Community Hyderabad for creating a space where AI, cybersecurity and career growth could come together.

Sometimes, a meaningful conversation can be the beginning of a completely different career journey.

You have the skills.
The experience.

The knowledge.

But does the right person know?
Can they clearly explain what you are good at?
Can they remember the problems you solve?
Can they see the evidence?
Can they trust you with something bigger?

That's your career signal.
Your job title tells people what you do.
Your career signal tells them why they should choose you.
And in an AI-driven world, this becomes even more important.
Because when generic skills become easier to access, your differentiated experience, judgment, reputation and outcomes become more valuable.

I had the opportunity to speak to 120+ developers, engineers, and builders at EPAM Hyderabad on:

“Amplifying Your Career with AI — Skills, Tools & Career Growth.”

The core of what I shared:

🔹 Build assets, not just skills.
Skills get you opportunities. Assets create long-term leverage.

🔹 Fundamentals matter MORE in the AI era.
When ex*****on becomes easier, thinking, communication and problem-solving become your advantage.

🔹 It’s not just an AI gap. It’s a skills gap.
The real advantage is Human + AI + Domain Expertise + Creativity + Critical Thinking + Ex*****on.
