Global Table Tennis Academy (GTTA) players continued their victory march by winning highest number of titles for the second time in a row in the Telangana State Ranking tournament held at St Pual's High School from July 25 to 28.
The GTTA paddlers played eight out of the ten finals and won four titles. The Academy's B Varun Shankar and S Fidel R Snehit retained their cadet boys and sub junior boys titles in style respectively.
Snehit hogged the limelight by pocketing junior and youth titles as well in the boys section. Subham Sharma had achieved this triple title feat in a tournament in Nalgonda in November 2006, according to officials.
Snehit beat Saroj Siril (SPSTTA) in sub juniors and Harsh Lahoti (YMCA) in junior and youth categories.
In the girls section, A Sreeja came up with a superb performance but had to contend with runner-up titles in three categories, namely junior, youth and women.
The chief coach of the academy, Somnath Ghosh, also played finals in the men's section and went down fighting.
In addition to this, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Jubilee Hill's team, consisting Snehit, Varun and Sharan (all from GTTA), were runner-up in the inter-school championship.
It may be recalled that GTTA played seven out of 10 finals and won four titles apart from winning the inter-school title in the first Telangana State Ranking, Inter School & Inter-Institution Table Tennis Championships conducted by St.Paul’s-Stag Table Tennis Academy (SPSTTA) from July 10 to 13, 2004.
"Consistency is the key and my students came up with some good performances during the tournament. I am very happy for this," the newly-married Somnath Ghosh said.
