J&K Cricket reaches grassroots level
It is a truly historic moment for Jammu & Kashmir cricket. The JKCA U-16 team’s journey to the Vijay Merchant Trophy 2025 Plate Group final has been nothing short of clinical, especially with their recent "demolition" of Sikkim.
That victory—a 4th consecutive innings win—was a statement of intent. It’s rare to see a team secure four consecutive innings plus victories in such a prestigious tournament, and it speaks volumes about the current crop of talent being nurtured by the JKCA’s Junior selection committee .
Inclusion of players from farflung districts like Shopian, Baramulla, Poonch, Reasi & Kathua is particularly inspiring. Players like Atharav Sharma, Hadi Amin, Sanil Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Tariq Nabi emerging from these districts have not only got selected through a tough selection process but have impressed one and all with their outstanding performances. To a player at the national level is a massive personal milestone for all the players of the young brigade of JKCA.
Their selection highlights the success of the JKCA’s decentralized approach. By reaching into the remote and farflung areas, JKCA has proved that geographic barriers are no longer an obstacle for world-class talent. For young kids, seeing these players in the J&K squad & performing serves as proof that the path from local grounds to the BCCI national stage is open and achievable.

A promising start is a good one. The performance of our young Brigade in their match against Meghalaya in Vijay Merchant Trophy is ample proof of their talent. Talented or great people show signs of their future greatness in their childhood has been aptly proved by our U16 team today at Surat. Three brilliant centuries Karman (182) & Arsalan (140) shared an opening stand of 248. Unbeaten Hundred by Hadi in quick time & classy 53 by Adnan in 28 balls enabled the team to score 585/7 by the end of the first day.
The entire cricket fraternity of JKL is proud of you all. Best of luck for the rest of the match.
What a spectacular win. Defended successfully 150. Credit goes to the bowlers led by Nabi & excellent fielding. Well played the Team. Many mouths will get shut by this great fight back. Heartiest congratulations to the cricket lovers of J&K.

With the victorious record maker U19 Men's team of JKCA. The young brigade despite conceding the first innings lead fought back valiantly to register its maiden victory over Mumbai, the nursery of Indian Cricket. Proud of our young brigade, it's a bundle of talented ferocious fighters. Keep an eye on them.

Dreams Drowned, Spirit Unbroken: Flash Floods Ravage JKCA Hostel Ground
Restoration efforts kindle hope for cricket’s swift revival in J&K
What was once a cradle of cricketing dreams now lies drowned in despair. In an unprecedented tragedy, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association’s (JKCA) Hostel Ground and complex have been ravaged by flash floods that struck on August 26, leaving behind scenes of utter ruin.
As floodwaters gushed in through two overflowing nallahs, the cricketing hub was swallowed by 6 to 8 feet of water. The aftermath is heartbreaking — mud-caked walls, toppled equipment, and an eerie silence where young cricketers once chased their dreams.
The lower portion of the JKCA office, once bustling with activity, now stands gutted. Essential records, cameras, electronic systems, and precious cricket gear lie destroyed, water-soaked and beyond repair. Even the smallest tools of the game — balls, pads, and clothing — have been reduced to ruins.
But the cruelest blow came to the ground itself. The lush green carpet grass, painstakingly laid only recently to offer budding players a world-class outfield, now lies buried under 3 to 5 feet of silt and slush. What should have been the pride of J&K cricket today resembles a swamp — lifeless, heavy with mud, and robbed of its spirit.
“This is indeed a tragedy, but the test of leadership lies in converting adversity into opportunity,” said Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration, JKCA, who has been on the ground, personally supervising restoration efforts. Men and machinery have been pressed into action, but with no functional generators and disrupted water supply, the process is painfully slow and exhausting.
Yet, despite the devastation, hope flickers. Brig Gupta has assured that the association is determined not to let this calamity derail its preparations for the national tournaments scheduled under the BCCI calendar. “We will rise from this setback and restore our facilities,” he affirmed.
For now, though, the sight of a ground once echoing with the thud of cricket balls and the cheers of young players, lying under layers of mud, feels like a wound to J&K’s cricketing soul. But amidst the ruins, one truth remains — the spirit of the game is resilient. And soon, as the silt is cleared and the pitch breathes again, cricket will reclaim its lost home.
The restoration process has been started at JKCA. JCB has been employed to clear the area other than ground.
Since the generators have also been submerged in water, things are being done manually which is a time taking process.

Due to unprecedented rainfall in Jammu on 26th August, the entire JKCA Complex was flooded with 6 to 8 ft of water. Once the water level receded it has left behind silt and slush 3 to 5 ft deep. More than 50% of the lower portion of the office complex was submerged in water causing extensive damage to stores, electric and electronic equipment, office record, cameras, clothing, cricket equipment including balls and the entire playing ground wherein the entire ground has been relaid with carpet grass.
