J&K Gymnasts Shine Globally: 7 Selected for World Cup & Asian Championships
Jammu August 30
In a remarkable feat for the Jammu and Kashmir gymnastics community, seven talented athletes have achieved a momentous milestone by earning coveted spots in both the World Cup and Asian Championships. These accomplished athletes, including six seniors and one sub-junior, have exhibited their prowess on the mat and are all set to represent India on the global stage.
The awe-inspiring journey of these gymnasts began at the Gymnastics Academy of Jammu & Kashmir, located within the iconic M A Stadium. Their relentless dedication and unwavering commitment have not only showcased their supremacy but have also brought laurels to their state and the nation as a whole. The outstanding performers emerged triumphant during the fiercely competitive National selection Trials held at Aurangabad.
Their exceptional talents have secured them positions in the Indian Aerobic Gymnastics teams, which will participate in the prestigious FIG World Cup in Aerobic Gymnastics at Bucharest, Romania, scheduled from October 13th to 15th, 2023. Additionally, they will also be vying for victory at the Asian Aerobic Gymnastic Championships, to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from September 15th to 17th, 2023.
The selection process was executed with utmost transparency and fairness, with the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) nominating a panel of 10 highly qualified Judges from across various States and Union Territories. These judges played a pivotal role in meticulously evaluating the performances of 122 gymnasts from all corners of the country who participated in the National selection Trials.
After an arduous evaluation process, the selection committee of GFI, guided by the recommendations of the Technical Committee, finalized the names of 14 gymnasts for both the World Cup and Asian Championships. Among these names, the Jammu and Kashmir contingent emerged with a shining representation in both categories.
In the seniors' category, the gymnasts who have earned their place in the Indian squad for the World Cup in Romania are Yaadavi Mahajan, Sudipti Khanna, Gourav Chettri, Manav Gupta, Laksh Mahajan, and Dhruv Dewan. Meanwhile, the sub-junior category will see Ruddrakash Khanna from J&K competing in the Asian Championships in Mongolia.
As these young athletes prepare to don the Indian colors and demonstrate their skills on an international platform, they stand as inspirations for aspiring gymnasts nationwide. Their journey showcases the true essence of sportsmanship and the ability to triumph against all odds.
