Angamardana” means gaining complete mastery over the limbs, organs, and other parts of the body. True to its name, this practice revitalizes the body on all levels including the muscles, circulatory system, skeletal structure, nervous system, and the basic energy system.

With exercises carefully selected by Sadhguru to be of universal appeal and application, Angamardana needs no fitness equipment. It uses only the body and can be practiced anywhere, even during travel.

I used to run marathons and do long distance cycling till lock down. In our office we had an active runner’s club and we used to train for marathons. I started running for fun. Then after meeting the marathoners like , I started looking for increasing pace. Finishing 5 km sub 30min, 10km sub 60 min and 21 km sub 2 hrs all are dreams of a runner. After training daily I used to struggle to finish 5km under 30 min. Most of the times I took 32-33 mins or more.

For more than one year now, I haven’t run even 1 km. I was busy with work and I also went through 5 months of intense sadhana doing Angamardana, Yogasanas, Suryakriya etc twice a day during Isha Hathayoga teachers training which I continued post training.

I thought of starting running and decided to go for a 2km run today. I believed it would be difficult to run without practice. To my surprise, when I started running it felt very effortless and I was running comfortably, even better than how I used to run when I trained daily. Eventually I finished 5km run in 28 min 15 sec which is my personal best!!

I realised that doing all these yogic practices daily has definitely improved my lung capacity and stamina. All these changes happened without me being consciously aware of it.

This made me realised how yoga can change one’s body and mind without being aware of it and reaffirmed my belief in all the powerful yogic practices we had been practicing.
