The West Bengal State Under-9 Open and Girls Fide Rated Chess Championships 2026 successfully wrapped up today at P B Academic School in Kolkata. The Tournament was organised by Alekhine Chess Club, Kolkata under the auspices of SBDS & AICF.

The closing ceremony was graced by renowned Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua and other distinguished dignitaries, who congratulated the participants and distributed prizes to the winners.

Following a highly competitive tournament, the top two finishers from both the Open and Girls divisions have officially qualified to represent West Bengal at the upcoming National Under-9 Chess Championship 2026 in Jharkhand. We wish our state representatives the absolute best of luck at the Nationals!

๐ŸŒŸ Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua Concludes Highly Successful North Bengal Tour
We are thrilled to announce that our President, Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua (Arjuna Awardee), has completed a highly productive two-day tour of North Bengal on the 23rd and 24th of May.
The tour was marked by key administrative meetings, interactive sessions with young talents, and the celebration of the region's growing chess community.
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Day 1: May 23rd โ€” High-Profile Meetings & Community Felicitations
โ€ข Strategic Leadership Meetings: GM Barua began his tour with a series of fruitful discussions with prominent leaders. He met with respected MP Manoj Tiggy at Madarihat, newly elected MLA Laxuman Limbu at Birpara (Alipurduar), and MLA Paritosh Das at Alipurduar to discuss future initiatives for chess development.
โ€ข Inspiring Next-Gen Talent: He visited the Alipurduar Daba Chorcha Kendra, where he spent time interacting with and motivating enthusiastic young chess players.
โ€ข Heartwarming Receptions: En route to Jalpaiguri, he received a grand welcome at Dhupguri. Budding players and their parents gathered in front of the local chess academy to felicitate him. He was also warmly honored by local MLA Naresh Roy and the Kamtapuri Unnoyon Mancha.
โ€ข District Roadmaps: The first day concluded in Jalpaiguri with a highly productive meeting with the members of the Jalpaiguri District Chess Association to plan upcoming regional activities.

โ€ข Empowering Match Officials: GM Barua visited Siliguri to encourage and inspire the participants of the ongoing FIDE Arbiter (FA) Seminar. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to renowned arbiters & Fide Lecturers IA Dharmendra Kumar and IA Swapnil Bansod for their invaluable contributions to promoting chess across India.
โ€ข Celebrating Champions: To conclude his inspiring tour, he graced the prestigious Prize Giving Ceremony of the West Bengal State Under-15 Chess Championship, where he congratulated and awarded the state's top young talents.
