Unlike the mega-auction held for the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 2023 season will witness a mini-auction. All ten franchises have been asked to submit their list of retained players by November 15, and ahead of the due date, many franchises are brainstorming on whom they should retain and release.
Regarding the same, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who were one of the two new franchises that made their debut in IPL 2022, will be looking for some changes.
Notably, the Lucknow team management formed a stellar squad at the IPL 2022 mega auction, making KL Rahul as the captain of the side. The Super Giants performed well and made it to the playoffs in their debut season, but their campaign ended after facing a defeat from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator match.
According to media reports, the Super Giants might release Indian batter Manish Pandey, Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye, and Indian pacer Ankit Rajpoot ahead of the mini-auction due to their price tags.
Veteran batter Manish has been around the cash-rich league since its beginning. Manish has played for various teams, and in the 2022 season, he was roped in by LSG for a sum of INR 4.6 CR to strengthen their middle order.
Manish was expected to justify his price tag, but he failed in doing so, as he managed only 88 runs at a strike rate of 110.00 in six matches last season. Since LSG already have Deepak Hooda, who had a brilliant outing with the bat, they are likely to release Manish.
LSG had signed Aussie pacer Tye as the injury replacement for England’s Mark Wood. However, Tye played only three games and couldn’t impress as he picked up two wickets and had an expensive economy rate of 9.72. The franchise already have a few pace options, including Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan and Wood, who is fit again.
Another pacer who might be released ahead of the auction is Ankit. The right-arm speedster was roped in for INR 50 lakhs, but unfortunately, he didn’t get any game to prove his mettle.

Team India are being criticised from all corners following their massive 10-wicket defeat against England in the second semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
India, after posting 168/6 on the board, failed to defend the score as the English opening duo of Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made the chase a cakewalk and finished the proceedings within 16 overs. After the loss, many experts came out in the open and severely criticised the Indian team. The latest on the list is former England captain Michael Vaughan who slammed India’s outdated style of play and also reckoned that the Indian Premier League (IPL) hasn’t benefitted the Men in Blue, unlike the other country’s players.
Notably, India’s batting approach came under the scanner as they managed only 38 runs in the powerplay, as opposed to England, who smashed 63 without losing a wicket.
“India are the most under-performing white-ball team in history. Every player in the world who goes to the Indian Premier League says how it improves their game but what have India ever delivered? India are playing a white-ball game that is dated and have done for years,” Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
Vaughan also suggested that India should do some self-assessment as to how they have repeatedly failed to live up to the hype and said they can’t get away from criticism.
“India have to be honest now. What happens when India arrive at a World Cup? Everyone plays them up. Nobody wants to criticise them because you get hammered on social media, and pundits worry about losing work in India one day. But it is time to tell it straight. They can hide behind their great players, but it is about getting a team playing the right way as a whole,” Vaughan wrote further.

Pakistan’s star cricketer Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza have been married for more than 12 years. They also have a baby boy named Izhaan. But their marriage is on the rocks, and if Pakistan and Dubai media reports are to be believed, their divorce is on the cards.
Recently, Sania shared a picture with Izhaan and wrote about the moments that get her through the ‘hardest days’. She has even deleted Shoaib’s photographs from her Instagram account.

It is reported that the main reason behind Shoaib and Sania’s troubled marriage is Pakistani model-turned-actress Ayesha Omar.
Shoaib and Ayesha worked with each other for a daring photoshoot almost a year back. The bold pictures of that photoshoot have resurfaced on social media and have added fuel to the fire.
Sania’s fans have started blaming Ayesha for breaking the tennis star’s wedding with Shoaib.

Amid all the hate, the gorgeous model has reacted to the claims that she is in a relationship with the former Pakistan captain. Responding to the reports of her dating Shoaib, Ayesha said that she has immense respect for the cricketer and his wife. The Lahore-born actress added that she is just a good friend of Shoaib and there’s nothing more than that between them.
Her reaction to a fan’s comment can be read as: “Jee nahin. Bilkul nahin. Un kee shadi ho chuki hain aur wo apni biwi ke saath bahut khush hain (No, never… he is happily married to his wife). Mein dono aur ki bahut respect karti hoon (I respext both Shoaib and Sania). Shoaib aur mein ache dost aur ek dusare ke kherkhwa hain. Bahut respect karte hain. Team India’s humiliating exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 has shattered billions of hearts back home. The Men in Blue were humiliated by Jos Buttler’s Team England in the second semi-final on Thursday.
Defending 168, the Indian bowlers failed to pick up a single wicket and were taken to the cleaners by English openers Butler and Alex Hales. The duo added a record 170-run stand for the opening wicket by utilizing the short side outfields of the Adelaide Oval. Meanwhile, Team India struggled in the batting department as well. They were 20 runs short of the par score even after Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya struck half-centuries.
The silver lining that the 2007 champions can take from this ICC tournament is the batting performance of Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Both are among the highest run-getters, and Kohli is leading the charts with 296 runs in 6 matches at a scintillating average of 98.66.
The former India captain reacted on his social media accounts after the humiliating defeat against England and shared a picture with his teammates along with a caption: “We leave Australian shores short of achieving our dream and with disappointment in our hearts but we can take back a lot of memorable moments as a group and aim to get better from here on.”

After India’s ten-wicket defeat against England in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, former Pakistan seamer Wasim Akram took a subtle dig at the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 56-year-old said that he was intrigued by India’s failure to win the T20 World Cup since the inception of IPL, the biggest and the richest franchise league, in 2009.
“Everyone thought the IPL will be the big difference between India and other teams. IPL started in 2008. India won a T20 World Cup before that in 2007. Since the advent of the IPL, India have never won a T20 World Cup. They won a World Cup in 2011 but that’s 50 overs,” Akram said during a panel discussion on ASports.
India were knocked out in the Group stage of the last year’s T20 World Cup and couldn’t make it to the final four of the 2022 Asia Cup in September.
Wasim felt India would have performed better against England if their bowlers had more pace to trouble the batters.
“It’s not that India don’t have fast bowlers who can bowl quick. They have a few very exciting young pace bowlers like Avesh Khan and Umran Malik. These guys can consistently bowl at 145 kmph. But the problem is most of their young fast bowlers lose their pace after playing one season in the IPL,” added Wasim.
“After one IPL season, Avesh’s pace came down to 135. So the BCCI should check why this is happening frequently in Indian cricket.”
According to Wasim, the youngsters in India also lose the hunger to work hard on their game after earning big contracts in the IPL.
“I think Avesh was paid 12 crores (Rs120 million) in the IPL. I am all for money. But when you are young and you are paid so much money, it’s possible for a youngster to lose focus and lose the hunger to work hard,” Wasim added further.
“So I think there should be a cap when it comes to giving IPL contracts to young players. Only then will these youngsters realise the importance of working hard and showing the hunger to improve.”
The finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup will see Jos Buttler-led side locking horns with Babar Azam’s Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday (November 13).

Wasim Akram takes a jibe on IPL after India’s exit from T20 World Cup 2022
After India's ten-wicket defeat against England in the second semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, former Pakistan seamer Wasim Akram took a subtle dig at the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 56-year-old said that he was intrigued…

Team India’s ICC title drought has continued after they faced an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat from England in the semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday. The Men in Blue did well with the bat and posted 168/6 in 20 overs. But their bowling was the major letdown as India failed to pick any wickets, with England openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales taking their team over the finish line within 16 overs.
Notably, between the period of 2007 and 2013, India won three ICC trophies – the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013 – under the inspiring leadership of MS Dhoni.
Since the Champions Trophy win in 2013, India, despite being regarded as one of the strongest teams, has failed to grab another ICC title. In the 2014 T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue reached the final, where they suffered a six-wicket against Sri Lanka. In the following year, at the 50-over World Cup in Australia, India faced a defeat by the hosts.
The 2016 T20 World Cup took place in India, where Virat Kohli was at his peak of form. He single-handedly took his team to the finals, but the West Indies defeated the hosts to become world champions.
In the next year, arch-rivals India and Pakistan took on each other in the Champions Trophy final, where the Men in Green emerged victorious, and India’s wait for an ICC title continued.
The hopes of fans then shifted to the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England, where many expected India to clinch the title as they were looking for a perfectly balanced side. However, the Kohli-led side yet again got crushed in the semi-final against New Zealand.
In the year 2020, very few international matches took place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the next major ICC event occurred in 2021 in the form of the ICC World Test Championship final. After two years of consistent performance in the longer format, India and New Zealand made it through the finals, but Kohli and Co. lost the battle against Black Caps.
The year 2021 witnessed the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19. India were looking solid to go further in the tournament, but things went south for the Men in Blue as they couldn’t even reach the knockout stage after losing back-to-back games against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Team India suffered a massive 10-wicket defeat against England in the second semi-final clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
Lots of fans and experts expected that the contest would be a cracker of a game, but the outcome was completely different as Indian bowlers failed to defend 169. The Indian bowling unit, which did pretty well throughout the tournament, couldn’t even take a single wicket as Jos Buttler and Alex Hales put up a dominant unbeaten 170-run opening stand to take England to the finals of the multi-team competition.
Notably, India last won an ICC title way back in 2013, when they triumphed against England in the Champions Trophy final under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Since then, the Men in Blue have lost in two ICC World Cup semi-finals (2015 and 2019), one Champions Trophy final (2017), a couple of T20 World Cup semi-finals (2016 and 2022) and one T20 World Cup final (2014).
After the defeat, several questions were being raised over the form of some senior players. However, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid came out in support of the experienced campaigners, stating that it was not the right time to talk about their future.
“Too early to talk about. These guys (Rohit, Kohli & Bhuvneshwar) have done well. Not the right time to talk about this,” said Dravid in the post-match press conference.
Dravid admitted that the English team got off to a tremendous start which helped them to control the game from the beginning.
“Once they got off to that kind of start, I think they could really sit back and control the run rate. We had 168. They brought that run rate down to six and a half, I think, by the time the sixth over was finished, or seven runs an over, and then on a small ground like that, they were always in control, so they were going to control that game. They didn’t really need to take too many risks. They could sit back and — not that they didn’t take them; they played some really good shots right through. But yeah, these things happen. Yeah, it’s disappointing. Debacle, I’m not sure, is the right word, but disappointing certainly,” added Dravid.

In the knockout fixture, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya hit crucial half-centuries and helped India recover from a shaky start and post 168/5. But it was Pandya’s blazing knock that guided India to a respectable total.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took a cheeky dig at Team India after they suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final at the hands of England in Adelaide on Thursday (November 10).

Talking about the knockout clash between India and England, captain Buttler and Alex Hales took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners and reached the finish line in just 16 overs. Buttler remained unbeaten on 80 after facing 49 balls while ‘Player of the Match’ Hales finished on 86 off 47 deliveries.
Earlier, India riding on some fine batting display from former skipper Virat Kohli and a late surge from all-rounder Hardik Pandya posted 168/6 on the board in their allotted 20 overs, but they fell 20 runs short of the par score.
Rohit broke down in tears after the end of the game and was consoled by Team India head coach Rahul Dravid.

Rohit Sharma’s Team India were eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup after an embarrassing defeat against Jos Buttler’s England at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
Chasing 169 for victory, Buttler (80 not out) and Alex Hales (86 not out) made a mockery of the Indian bowling attack as the English opening pair stitched a record partnership of 170 runs and propelled their side to the final where they will meet Pakistan.
The impact of the big loss was visible in Rohit as he couldn’t hold himself back and cried while sitting besides former India skipper and current head coach Rahul Dravid.

“You can’t teach anyone to handle pressure”
In the post-match presentation, Rohit blamed his team’s insipid bowling performance for the humiliating 10-wicket loss.
“Pretty disappointed how it turned out today. We batted well at the back end to get that score. We were not up to the mark with the ball. It was definitely not a wicket where a team can come and chase it down in 16 overs. With the ball we couldn’t turn up today,” said Rohit.
This defeat meant the Men in Blue had lost the World Cup semi-final each of the last four times they had reached that stage – the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups and the 2016 T20 World Cup before this one.
Rohit said his players had the experience to handle the pressure of a knockout game, but were “a little nervous” versus England.
“When it comes to knockout stages, it’s all about handling the pressure. Depends on the individual as well. You can’t teach anyone to handle pressure. When these guys play the playoffs in the IPL and all that, those are high-pressure games, and they’re able to handle it.
He added: “I thought the way we started off with the ball was not ideal. That shows we were a little nervous to start off with the ball, but again we’ve got to give credit to those openers as well, they played really well.”

Alex Hales and Jos Buttler put on a show with the bat as England annihilated India by ten wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday (November 10).
Put in to bat first, India posted 168/6 on the board in their stipulated overs. Hardik Pandya (63 off 33 balls) and Virat Kohli (50 off 40 balls) scored half-centuries, while the remaining batters KL Rahul (5), Rohit Sharma (27), Suryakumar Yadav (14) and Rishabh Pant (6) could not contribute much to the team’s total.
Wrist-spinner Adil Rashid was the stand-out bowler for England, picking up the prized wicket of Suryakumar and conceding only 20 runs in his full quota of four overs.
Chasing 160 for victory, England reached the finish line without breaking a sweat. The duo of Hales and Buttler smashed Indian bowlers to parts of the ground, sharing an unbeaten 170-run stand to overhaul the target with four overs to spare. This was a record partnership for any wicket in Men’s T20I World Cup matches.
‘Man of the Match’ Hales remained not out on 86 off 47 balls, while captain Buttler finished with an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls.
Here is how the cricket fraternity reacted to England’s win:
