The history of martial art style of Shotokan karate begins with Gichin Funakoshi,a man that is given great credit not only for its birth but also for helping to popularize karate in general. Gichin Funakoshi

was born on 10th November 1868 at Shuri, Okinawa.and widely known as the founder of Shotokan Karete-Do. Karate is a martial art of Japanese origin that deals with attacks through evasive body movement and/or blocking, and counter attack using kicks,punches and strikes. joint locks,restraints and take down are also used,but to a lesser extent. People variously practice it as a form of self defence,a way of keeping healthy and a sport.The AISKA is rich in tradition. As a self defence system,karate does not so much teach a set of standard responses to a set of limited scenarios,but rather teaches a set of principles that can b applied in any situations. As a method of keeping fit and healthy,it develops balance,co-ordination,aerobics fitness,strength and flexibility.in addition,(and unlike many other physical activities),it also challenges the brain and requires constant mental alertness and agility. Karate training at A.I.S.K.S is much more then just a physical exercise,however.it is a complete discipline your mind and temper your spirit.
