The ‘Amateur Rowing Association of the East’ is an association of Premier Rowing Clubs situated in the Eastern Hemisphere. The British formed this association to kick start competitive rowing activity amongst all rowing clubs wherever they colonized. The ARAE or Amateur Rowing Association of the East was formed in the 1930s with Bombay Gymkhana, Calcutta Rowing Club, Karachi Boat Club, Madras Boat Club, Rangoon Universities Boat Club and the Royal Connaught Boat Club (Pune) as founder members.
