π€π₯π§..Recovery by Training Type
Light workout: 24β48 hours
Moderate hypertrophy training: 48β72 hours
Heavy strength training (85%+ 1RM): 72+ hours
Training to failure: Often adds 12β24 hours of recovery needs
Signs a Muscle Has Recovered
β
Soreness mostly gone
β
Strength is back to normal
β
Full range of motion
β
No unusual fatigue
Training Frequency for Growth
Most research suggests training each muscle 2 times per week works very well for muscle growth:
Example: Push/Pull/Legs (6 days/week)
Example: Upper/Lower (4 days/week)
Example: Full Body (3 days/week)
A muscle doesn't necessarily need to be 100% soreness-free before training again, but performance should not be significantly reduced.
If you're lifting specifically for muscle growth (hypertrophy), I can also give you the optimal recovery times for each muscle based on current hypertrophy research rather than the general ranges above.
