A Sporting Spectacle: 9th District Kupwara Rugby 7’s Championship 2025 Concludes in Grand Style

Kupwara, June 26, 2025 – Kupwara roared with pride and passion as the 9th District Kupwara Rugby 7’s Championship 2025 came to a thrilling close at the iconic Galizoo Stadium. Over two electrifying days, the district witnessed an inspiring display of determination, discipline, and raw talent as young athletes battled for glory in one of North Kashmir’s fastest-growing sports – Rugby 7s.

The closing ceremony was a celebration of effort, excellence, and empowerment. Mr. Mohd Amin graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, with Mr. Abdul Rashid War and Mr. Bashir Ahmad from the DYSSO Kupwara Activity Section attending as Guests of Honour. Their encouraging words and presence added prestige to the event and uplifted the spirits of the young players.

In his address, Mr. Mohd Amin praised the championship as a symbol of youth energy and collective ambition. “Kupwara’s youth are writing a new chapter in sports history. This is not just about matches; it’s about shaping champions of tomorrow—on the field and in life,” he said.

With more then 18 teams competing across various age groups, the tournament showcased not just competition, but a celebration of unity, diversity, and empowerment through sport. The cheering crowds, thrilling finishes, and exceptional team spirit reminded everyone why sports are such a powerful force in society.

Kupwara Rugby Association Successfully Concludes 8th District Kupwara Championship 2024

Kupwara, July 23, 2024 — The 8th District Kupwara Championship 2024, organized by the Kupwara Rugby Association in collaboration with the J&K Rugby Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, successfully concluded its two-day event at Galizoo Stadium, Kupwara. The championship, held from July 22 to 23, 2024, saw the participation of 146 players from the Kupwara region.

The opening ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of DYSSO Zahoor Ahmad Wani, who inaugurated the championship on July 22nd. The event also had the honor of hosting Mr. Javaid Ahmad and Mr. Altafa Ahmad from Youth Services and Sports Kupwara as Guests of Honor.

The closing ceremony was held with great enthusiasm on July 23rd, where Mr. Sahibzada Niyaz Ahmad (KAS), Tehsildar Kupwara, served as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ahmad distributed trophies among the winners, celebrating their hard work and dedication. The closing event also welcomed Ms. Neelofar Sidiq, a prominent volleyball player from Kupwara, as the Guest of Honor.

The championship provided a platform for young rugby players from the Kupwara region to showcase their talent and sportsmanship. The Kupwara Rugby Association, along with its partners, extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, officials, and supporters who made this event a grand success.

Kupwara Rugby Shines at the 15th J&K UT Rugby 7's Championship 2023: Under 12 Girls Win Gold, Senior Women Secure Bronze Medal

[Kupwara, 28 - May - 2023] – Kupwara Rugby created waves of excitement and pride as their young Under 12 Girls' team clinched the Gold medal. In contrast, the Senior Women's team secured the Bronze medal at the prestigious 15th J&K UT Rugby 7's Championship 2023 held at Polo Ground in Srinagar. The outstanding performances by the Kupwara teams showcased their dedication, skill, and unwavering spirit.

Under the guidance of Coach Aadil Manzoor Peer and assistant coaches Zubair Ahmad Sofi, Navaid Nabi, and Pakeeza Sakhi, the Kupwara Under 12 Girls' team exhibited exceptional teamwork and determination throughout the championship. 7th District Kupwara Rugby 7's Championship 2023 Sees Huge Participation and Excitement

Galizoo Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir - The Kupwara Rugby Association, in collaboration with J&K Rugby under the aegis of J&K Sports Council, powered by Growth Sports Academy, organized the 7th District Kupwara Rugby 7's Championship 2023. The event witnessed an enormous turnout of 173 participants from different institutes throughout the District Kupwara. The championship was held on 8th and 9th, May 2023.

The two-day event was packed with thrilling matches, exciting performances, and enthusiastic crowds. Rugby enthusiasts from across the district gathered at Galizoo Kupwara to witness the championship and cheer for their favorite teams. The championship was a fantastic opportunity for young players to showcase their skills and talents, and for rugby fans to experience the excitement of live sports.

The championship featured teams competing in various categories, including senior men, senior women, U-17 boys, U-17 girls, U-14 boys, and U-14 girls. The level of competition was intense, with each team giving their best to win the coveted prizes. The matches were played with great sportsmanship, and the players displayed remarkable agility, speed, and teamwork.

In the senior men category, Growth Sports Academy J&K emerged as the winners, displaying excellent skills and coordination. Govt. Degree College Kupwara secured the second position, while Govt. Degree College Sogam took the third place. In the senior women category, Govt. Degree College Kupwara claimed the Gold medal, followed by Govt. Degree College Sogam with the Silver medal. Govt Girls Hr. Sec School Sogam secured the Bronze medal.

In the U-17 boys category, Growth Sports Academy J&K continued their winning streak and won the Gold medal, with Red Dot Kupwara securing the Silver medal. BHSS Krusun won the Bronze medal. In the U-14 boys category, BHSS Sogam won the Gold medal, while Strong Wave Awoora secured the Silver medal. BMS Doonwari won the Bronze medal. In the U-14 girls category, Ibn E Sina School of Thought Tikker Kupwara claimed the Gold medal, followed by Elite Hr Sec School Kupwara with the Silver medal. Victoriya Stars secured the Bronze medal.

The championship was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Zahoor Ahmad Lone, Manager Sports Council Kupwara, and Guest of Honour Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, Director Physical Education GDC Kupwara. The winners were felicitated with medals and trophies by the dignitaries.
