When danger struck, she didn’t freeze. She fought back.
On an ordinary evening in West Delhi, 14-year-old Divya was walking home with her mother after tuition. What followed was anything but ordinary.
As they neared their lane in Uttam Nagar, a man suddenly shoved her mother to the ground and snatched the gold chain from her neck. In seconds, he ran.
Divya didn’t scream. She didn’t wait for help. She ran.
Fuelled by instinct and years of karate training, the teenager chased the thief through busy streets, dodging traffic and refusing to slow down.
Nearly half a kilometre later, she caught him and brought him to the ground, holding him until locals gathered and the police arrived. The gold chain was recovered, though the locket was missing.
What makes this moment powerful is not just her courage, but her clarity. Self-defence didn’t make Divya aggressive. It made her prepared.

This is why in Kalki Art of Self Defence workshops we teach a completely unique module on self defense, i.e not any sports karate or martial arts but a reality based holistic safety curriculum and street survival art, using presence of mind in the first place, an attitude to fight back and utilising daily use items available with you at that moment for your self defence (as this little tigress has done).
On July 9, a 16-year-old girl from Thane, Maharashtra, displayed extraordinary courage and presence of mind during a terrifying incident. While on her way to school, she was allegedly targeted by an auto-rickshaw driver and another accomplice who attempted to kidnap her. However, instead of panicking, the girl acted swiftly and bravely.
She reached into her school bag, pulled out a geometry compass, and stabbed the driver in self-defense. She then managed to push the second man away and jumped out of the moving auto-rickshaw. Despite the shock and physical risk, she continued on to school as usual. It wasn’t until later in the day that she informed her mother about what had happened.
The matter was immediately reported to the police. Authorities have since arrested the driver and booked him under sections 137(2) and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is currently underway to determine the full details of the attempted abduction and to identify the second suspect.
This incident has drawn attention not just for its seriousness, but also for the girl’s exceptional bravery. Her quick thinking and courageous actions possibly saved her from a far worse fate. She is now being hailed as an inspiration for other young girls, showing that self-defense and presence of mind can make a significant difference in moments of crisis.
This story stands as a reminder: sometimes it’s not the weapon, but the will to fight back, that saves a life.

Wherever my story takes me, however dark and difficult the theme, there is always some hope and redemption, not because readers like happy stuff, but because I prefer to be an optimist at heart. I know the sun will rise in the morning, that there is a light at the end of every tunnel. 🌷🌷🌷🕉️☸️✡️☯️✝️☦️☪️☮️🔯🇮🇳
