When people perceive judgment, blame or criticism, they often see only 2 options: submit or rebel (defensiveness).

I know my wife gets defensive when I communicate from a place of judgments, blame, criticism, or some kind of make-wrong.

It's because in her world, she always tries her best to contribute to the relationship.

But sometimes I have other priorities that seem more important to me, and I don’t consider her efforts.

We’re all different, and we all have different values and priorities.

When I try to push my priorities onto my partner, I unconsciously create a power struggle. And she tends to resist because her priorities seem more important to her.
