You've probably heard people say they are not losing weight because their metabolism is slow or 'broken.'
Don't get me wrong - your metabolism plays a role in weight loss.
But ultimately, it comes down to your diet and exercise. Those are the most significant factors when it comes to weight loss.
People have a fast or slow metabolism. For one's having slow metabolism, Let's dive into some ways you can boost it.
1️⃣ Lift weights that challenge yourself. Lifting weights will help you increase your muscle mass, which helps boost your metabolism. When you have more muscle mass, your body needs to work harder to maintain it.
2️⃣ Prioritize protein in your diet. When you eat more protein, your body needs to break it down and digest it. You will burn more calories by digesting protein. Also, protein helps you maintain and build muscle.
3️⃣ Increase your NEAT. Your NEAT is the activity you do outside the gym. Going on walks, parking further away, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator are great ways to increase your NEAT.
4️⃣ Get adequate sleep each night. Multiple studies have shown that individuals who sleep poorly had their metabolisms decreased. Get to bed on time!
5️⃣ Incorporate diet breaks. Your body was not meant to be in 'diet mode' all year. When you have periods in maintenance or even a slight surplus, you can increase your metabolism. Don't be shy about diet breaks!
6️⃣ Don't starve yourself. When your goal is to lose weight, you might think you need to drop your calories very low. As low as you can! But that will only end up in your metabolism slowing down. Rushing results don't have many positive outcomes!
